The aim of this study was to analyze the outcomes of a standardized protocol using routine CSFD, neuromonitoring, LL reperfusion, and selective TASP to prevent SCI during F-BEVAR. ⋯ This prospective nonrandomized study using a standardized strategy to prevent SCI was associated with low incidence of the SCI during F-BEVAR. Permanent paraplegia occurred in 1%.

Investigate long-term survival, morbidity, mortality, and pathology results in patients following esophagectomy or total gastrectomy for gastroesophageal junction (GEJ) cancer. ⋯ A total gastrectomy and an esophagectomy for GEJ cancer show largely comparable results with regard to long-term survival, postoperative morbidity, mortality, and pathology results. If both procedures are feasible, other parameters such as surgeon's experience and quality of life should be considered when planning for surgery.

To determine the accuracy of postoperative patient-reported comorbidity assessment, as it may be an important mechanism for long-term follow-up in surgical patients. ⋯ Patient-reported comorbidity assessment has high levels of agreement with medical chart audit for many comorbidities and can improve understanding of long-term outcomes. This will better inform patients and providers with hopes of 1 day moving beyond the 1%.

To evaluate whether pCR exclusively defines major pathologic response to treatment with improved survival. ⋯ ypN0 status is the strongest indicator of major pathologic response to trimodality therapy, in addition to >90% TR in the primary tumor bed. These findings may allow the definition of major pathologic response to be expanded, from pCR to > 90% TR and ypN0. This has meaningful implications for future clinical trials and correlative studies.

To examine 5-year survival in esophageal cancer after MIE compared to OE. ⋯ This bi-national study indicates that MIE is associated with a higher 5-year survival than OE in patients with esophageal cancer, and that the survival benefit is greater after total MIE than hybrid MIE.
