Factors Associated with Post-Procedure Opioid Prescribing and Persistent Opioid Use Among Opioid-Naïve Patients: A Nationally Representative Sample.
Examine factors associated with postprocedure opioid receipt and persistent opioid use among opioid-naive patients in a nationally representative sample. ⋯ Procedures account for a large portion of opioid prescriptions among opioid-naive patients. This study provides evidence to inform national guidelines for opioid prescribing and postprocedure pain management.

The aim of this study was to determine whether autotransfusion of salvaged blood with single leukoreduction is associated with post-transplant tumor recurrence in patients with advanced hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). ⋯ When allogeneic transfusion was matched, autotransfusion was not significantly related to HCC recurrence, with more favorable probabilities for autotransfusion, in patients with advanced HCC. Thus, blood salvage and autotransfusion could be safely used with single leukoreduction, without double-filtered leukoreduction, during liver transplantation for HCC with potential benefits from avoiding allogeneic red blood cell transfusion.

The goal of this study was to determine surgical patients' perceptions of hypothetical continuous audio-video OR recording (ORR). ⋯ Patients have a diverse set of views about the potential benefits, risks, and uses for OR data and consider themselves to be important stakeholders. Our study identifies pathways and potential challenges to implementation of continuous audio/video recording in ORs.

To determine the impact of tumor characteristics and treatment approach on (1) local recurrence, (2) scoliosis development, and (3) patient-reported quality of life in children with sarcoma of the chest wall. ⋯ Local recurrence occurs in one-quarter of children with chest wall sarcoma and is independent of tumor type. Scoliosis occurs in 13% of patients, but patient-reported quality of life is excellent.
