To identify clinical and histopathological risk factors of LNM in T1 CRC. ⋯ This is a large study on LNM in T1 CRC, including validation, showing that LVI and perineural invasion, mucinous subtype, and low age constitute independent risk factors, whereas depth of submucosal invasion is not an independent risk factor of LNM. Thus, our findings provide a useful basis for management of patients after local excision of early CRC.

Surgeons' Coaching Techniques in the Surgical Coaching for Operative Performance Enhancement (SCOPE) Program.
To evaluate coaching techniques used by practicing surgeons who underwent dedicated coach training in a peer surgical coaching program. ⋯ Short-course coach trainings can help practicing surgeons use effective coaching techniques to guide their peers' performance improvement in a way that aligns with surgical culture.

Identify key demographic factors and modes of follow-up in surgical survey response. ⋯ Every survey is unique, but the main commonality between studies is response rate. Response rates appear to be highly dependent on type of survey, follow-up, geography, and interviewee type.

The aim was to develop a reliable surgical quality assurance system for 2-stage esophagectomy. HLA-A Locus is Associated With Sepsis and Septic Shock After Traumatic Injury.
Determine whether variation in the HLA region is associated with the development of post-traumatic sepsis and septic shock. ⋯ This is the first study to apply next-generation sequencing techniques to evaluate associations between immunogenetic factors and post-traumatic sepsis and septic shock. Associations with class I HLA variants are novel as they implicate adaptive immunity in post-traumatic sepsis. These findings are a step towards developing a panel of genetic markers assessing risk of infection-related complications as we move towards more personalized medicine.
