The objective of this study was to estimate the incidence and cumulative risk of major surgery in older persons over a 5-year period and evaluate how these estimates differ according to key demographic and geriatric characteristics. ⋯ Major surgery is a common event in the lives of community-living older persons, including high-risk vulnerable subgroups.

To utilize items identified as priorities by the Patient-Reported Outcomes after Pouch Surgery Delphi consensus study to create a validated tool for quantifying pouch function. ⋯ This study developed a patient-centered, clinically useful scoring system that can quantify the range and severity of symptoms experienced by ileoanal pouch patients and their correlation with quality of life.

To construct a prediction model for more precise evaluation of prognosis which will allow personalized treatment recommendations for adjuvant therapy in patients following resection of ESCC. ⋯ The prediction model constructed in this study may facilitate precise prediction of survival and inform decision-making about adjuvant therapy according to N stage.

We sought to evaluate long-term healthcare requirements of American military servicemembers with combat-related injuries. ⋯ This investigation represents the longest continuous observation of healthcare utilization among individuals after combat injury and the first to assess costs. Expenditures were 30% higher for individuals injured as a result of combat-related trauma when compared to those injured in the civilian sector.
