Ex vivo lung perfusion (EVLP) sustains and allows advanced assessment of potentially useable donor lungs before transplantation, potentially relieving resource constraints. ⋯ We observed a significant increase in organ transplantation since EVLP was introduced into practice, predominantly from increased acceptance of donation after circulatory death and extended-criteria lungs. Our findings suggest that EVLP-associated increases in organ availability meaningfully alleviated some barriers to transplant.

To compare textbook outcomes (TO) of open live donor right hepatectomy (RH) versus open right hepatic lobectomy for cancer in a single Western center and to identify clinical factors associated with failure to achieve a TO. ⋯ A TO can be achieved in over 90% of patients undergoing living donor RH and in approximately half of RH cancer cases. These metrics represent a new benchmark for "real-world" TO after open RH.

To describe national trends in surgical technique and rates of reoperation for recurrence for patients undergoing ventral hernia repair (VHR) in the United States. ⋯ The surgical treatment of ventral and incisional hernias has evolved in recent decades, with more patients undergoing minimally invasive repair, receiving mesh, and undergoing myofascial release. Although our analysis does not address causality, rates of reoperation for hernia recurrence improved slightly contemporaneous with changes in surgical technique.

To establish surgical site infection (SSI) performance benchmarks in pediatric surgery and to develop a prioritization framework for SSI prevention based on procedure-level SSI burden. ⋯ A small number of procedures account for a disproportionate burden of SSIs in pediatric surgery. The results of this analysis can be used as a prioritization framework for refocusing SSI prevention efforts where they are needed most.

This study aims to identify factors associated with the occurrence of local relapse (LR) after treatment for unilateral nephroblastoma. ⋯ Several factors are responsible for the occurrence of LR. Surgical ones, like LN sampling allow further reduction of LR and consequently a better outcome of patients with unilateral nephroblastoma.
