Randomized Controlled Trial Multicenter Study Comparative Study
Chemotherapy or liver transplantation for nonresectable liver metastases from colorectal cancer?
The primary objective was to compare overall survival (OS) in patients with colorectal cancer (CRC) with nonresectable liver-only metastases treated by liver transplantation or chemotherapy. ⋯ Compared with chemotherapy, liver transplantation resulted in a marked increased OS in CRC patients with nonresectable liver-only metastases.

To review prospective randomized controlled trials to determine whether pancreaticogastrostomy (PG) or pancreaticojejunostomy (PJ) is associated with lower risks of mortality and pancreatic fistula after pancreaticoduodenectomy (PD). ⋯ In PD, reconstruction by PG is associated with lower postoperative pancreatic and biliary fistula rates.

Pretrauma center red blood cell transfusion is associated with reduced mortality and coagulopathy in severely injured patients with blunt trauma.
To evaluate the association of pretrauma center (PTC) red blood cell (RBC) transfusion with outcomes in severely injured patients. ⋯ PTC RBC administration was associated with a lower risk of 24-hour mortality, 30-day mortality, and TIC in severely injured patients with blunt trauma, warranting further prospective study.

The true rate of new-onset diabetes (NODM) after distal pancreatectomy (DP) is not known. This systematic review was carried out to obtain exact percentages regarding the incidence of NODM after DP for different indications. ⋯ This review is the largest of its kind to assess the cumulative incidence of NODM after DP and shows that NODM is a frequently occurring complication, with incidence depending on the preexisting disease and follow-up time. Because NODM can affect quality of life, patients undergoing DP should be preoperatively provided with this information as specific as possible.

Impact of neoadjuvant chemoradiation on lymph node status in esophageal cancer: post hoc analysis of a randomized controlled trial.
The study objectives were to analyze the impact of the number of lymph nodes (LNs) reported as resected (NLNr) and the number of LNs invaded (NLNi) on the prognosis of esophageal cancer (EC) after neoadjuvant chemoradiotherapy. ⋯ nCRT is not only responsible for disease downstaging but also predicts fewer LNs being identified after surgical resection for EC. This has implications for the current quality criteria for surgical resection.
