Postoperative Complications and Mobilization Following Major Abdominal Surgery With Versus Without Fitness Tracker-based Feedback (EXPELLIARMUS): A Student-led Multicenter Randomized Controlled Clinical Trial of the CHIR-Net SIGMA Study Group.
To determine whether daily postoperative step goals and feedback through a fitness tracker (FT) reduce the rate of postoperative complications after surgery. ⋯ Daily step goals combined with FT-based feedback had no effect on postoperative morbidity. The EXPELLIARMUS shows that medical students can successfully conduct randomized controlled trials in surgery.

To evaluate the effect of nerve decompression on pain in patients with lower extremity painful diabetic peripheral neuropathy (DPN). ⋯ Although nerve decompression was associated with reduced pain, the benefit of surgical decompression needs further investigation as a placebo effect may be responsible for part or all of these effects.

To assess the effectiveness of indocyanine green (ICG)-guided lymph node (LN) dissection during laparoscopic radical gastrectomy after neoadjuvant chemotherapy (NAC) in patients with locally advanced gastric cancer (LAGC). ⋯ ICG can effectively improve the quality of lymphadenectomy in patients with LAGC who underwent laparoscopic radical gastrectomy after NAC.

Temporary Portocaval Shunt Provides Superior Intraoperative Hemodynamics and Reduces Blood Loss and Duration of Surgery in Live Donor Liver Transplantation: A Randomized Control Trial.
To compare intraoperative hemodynamic parameters, blood loss, renal function, and duration of surgery with and without temporary portocaval shunt (TPCS) in live donor liver transplantation (LT) recipients. Secondary objectives were postoperative early graft dysfunction, morbidity, mortality, total intensive care unit, and hospital stay. ⋯ In live donor LT, TPCS is a simple and effective technique that provides superior intraoperative hemodynamics and reduces blood loss and duration of surgery.
