Randomized Controlled Trial Multicenter Study Comparative Study
The HIPPO Trial, a Randomized Double-blind Trial Comparing Self-gripping Parietex Progrip Mesh and Sutured Parietex Mesh in Lichtenstein Hernioplasty: A Long-term Follow-up Study.
To evaluate the effect of a self-gripping mesh (Progrip) on the incidence of chronic postoperative inguinal pain (CPIP) and recurrence rate after Lichtenstein hernioplasty. ⋯ The self-gripping Progrip mesh does not reduce CPIP rates. Outcomes of the Progrip mesh are comparable to the Lichtenstein technique with the additional advantage of a reduced operation time. NCT01830452.

Multicenter Study
Long-term Follow-up After Ileorectal Anastomosis for Ulcerative Colitis: A GETAID/GETAID Chirurgie Multicenter Retrospective Cohort of 343 Patients.
To determine the cumulative incidence and the prognostic factors of ileorectal anastomosis (IRA) failure after colectomy for ulcerative colitis (UC). ⋯ Patients with UC have a high risk of IRA failure, particularly when colectomy is performed for refractory disease. However, IRA could be discussed after colectomy for severe acute colitis, or in patients naive to IS and anti-TNF.

Multicenter Study
Living or Brain-dead Donor Liver Transplantation for Hepatocellular Carcinoma: A Multicenter, Western, Intent-to-treat Cohort Study.
An intent-to-treat analysis of overall survival (ITT-OS) of cirrhotic patients with hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) listed for living donor liver transplantation (LDLT) or brain-dead donor liver transplantation (BDLT) across 5 French liver transplant (LT) centers. ⋯ LDLT improves ITT-OS, and it is not a risk factor for tumor recurrence. Therefore, LDLT and BDLT should be equally encouraged in countries where both are available.

Beyond Infrastructure: Understanding Why Patients Decline Surgery in the Developing World: An Observational Study in Cameroon.
The aim of this study was to quantify and describe a population of patients in rural Cameroon who present with a surgically treatable illness but ultimately decline surgery, and to understand the patient decision-making process and identify key socioeconomic factors that result in barriers to care. ⋯ Nearly one-fifth of patients presenting to a surgical clinic with a treatable condition did not ultimately receive needed surgery. Both financial and sociocultural factors contribute to the decision to decline care.
