ReviewAssociation of Blood Groups with the Severity and Outcome of COVID-19 Infection in Children.
The objective of this study was to find out the association of ABO blood groups with the severity and outcome of corona virus disease 2019 (COVID-19) in children. It included all laboratory-confirmed cases of COVID-19 and post-COVID multisystem inflammatory syndrome in children (MIS-C)/ Kawasaki disease (KD) like illness, admitted from March to September, 2020 to The Children's Hospital, Lahore. Out of 66 children, 45 (68.2%) were COVID-19 and 21 (31.8%) MIS-C/KD temporally associated with SARS-C0V-2. ⋯ Blood group A was significantly associated with severe and critical disease (p=0.030). COVID-19 in children had generally a good outcome, but children with blood group A were more susceptible to severe/critical disease. ReviewImaging Patterns of Encephalopathy in Patients with COVID-19.
The aim of this retrospective observational study was to describe the neuroimaging manifestations of patients with COVID-19. This study was conducted at Aga Khan University Hospital, Karachi, Pakistan from March to July 2020. ⋯ Three cases had acute watershed infarcts (25%), two cases had posterior cerebral artery territorial infarcts (16.7%), two cases had periventricular corona radiata infarcts (16.7%), three cases had hypoxic ischemic encephalopathy (25%), two cases had posterior reversible encephalopathy syndrome (16.7%), and there was one case each of cerebral venous sinus thrombosis, pontine infarct, and bithalamic lesions (8.3%). This study highlights the diagnostic approaches in COVID-19-associated encephalopathy and the variable imaging features that clinicians and neuroradiologists should be aware of, as the pandemic progresses. Observational StudyOutcomes of Conservative Management of Acute Appendicitis during COVID-19 Pandemic.
To measure the outcomes of conservative treatment of acute appendicitis. ⋯ Non-operative management is successful in about a quarter of the patients of AA. Functional and Radiological Outcome in Delayed Presenting Closed Displaced Lateral Condyle Fracture of Humerus in Children.
This prospective cohort study was conducted from July 2013 to May 2019. The functional and radiological outcome in displaced, neglected fracture of lateral condyle of the humerus treated with open reduction and internal fixation (ORIF) with Kirschner wire was assessed. The sample size was 44 children aged between 2 to 15 years Milch type I and II displaced lateral condyle of humerus fracture, four weeks and older were included. ⋯ Pre- and post-operatively, Mayo elbow score was 3.63 ± 0.57 and 1.56 ± 0.50, respectively. Good to excellent functional outcome, and union was observed in delayed presenting lateral condyle of humerus fractures. Observational StudyDoes Localisation of Fracture Line, According to Epicondyles, Affect Ligamentotaxis Negatively in Displaced Pediatric Supracondylar Humerus Fractures?
To investigate the effect of localisation of the fracture line according to the trans-epicondylar line on open reduction rates and postoperative reduction quality. ⋯ Determination of localisation of fracture line according to trans-epicondylar level in preoperative roentgenograms may allow the surgeon to predict the possibility of postoperative rotation deformity.
