Ultrasound-Guided Rhomboid Block versus Paravertebral Block in Postoperative Analgesia for Video-Assisted Thoracoscopic Surgery: A Prospective Randomized Controlled Clinical Trial.
The anesthetic efficacy of the ultrasound-guided rhomboid intercostal block (RIB) in alleviating postoperative pain has been well concerned. This study aims to compare the effectiveness between ultrasound-guided RIB and paravertebral block (PVB) in alleviating acute pain following video-assisted thoracic surgery. ⋯ Both PVB and RIB can provide adequate analgesia and accelerate the recovery of patients. Compared with PVB, RIB has a better analgesic effect, especially to avoid paravertebral pain caused by block, and the operation of RIB is more straightforward and the safety is higher.

The central mechanism of acupuncture for primary dysmenorrhea was explored by summarizing the changes in different regional networks of the brain induced by acupuncture stimulation by analyzing the existing studies. ⋯ The results suggest that the mechanism of acupuncture in the treatment of primary dysmenorrhea is the involvement of networks regulating different areas of the brain in the analgesic effects of acupuncture. The brain regions involved in primary dysmenorrhea acupuncture analgesia were mainly located in the pain matrix, default mode network, salience network, and limbic system.

A Novel Scale to Assess Parental Satisfaction of Dental Local Anesthetic Techniques in Children: A Cross-Sectional Study.
Pain control is one of the most important aspects that can affect parental satisfaction of the dental care provided for children. Dental local anesthesia has the highest impact on pain sensation of the children. However, there is no scale in the literature to assess parental satisfaction of dental local anesthetic techniques. ⋯ Findings of this study reported that the designed parental satisfaction of dental local anesthetic techniques scale (PSLAS) is a valid and reliable scale to be used. Moreover, this study showed that parental satisfaction was higher when computerized intraosseous anesthesia was used in comparison to inferior alveolar nerve block.

Pain management is a major medical issue. However, current medical education in Japan is inadequate with regard to training students to properly assess patients with acute and chronic pain and plan their treatment. Therefore, starting in 2019, Hyogo Medical University established a multidisciplinary educational system to better train medical students to provide pain care. ⋯ The test results were compared in terms of the percentage of correct answers and the total score for each question using McNemar's chi-square test and paired t-tests, respectively. The results showed a significant improvement in the mean of the total score, confirming the improvement in medical students' knowledge (6.43 vs. 7.35 points; p < 0.001). Based on the results, overall, pain education at the university has had positive outcomes and will therefore be continued in the future.

Analgesic Efficacy of Ketoprofen Transdermal Patch versus Ibuprofen Oral Tablet on Postendodontic Pain in Patients with Irreversible Pulpitis: A Randomized Clinical Trial.
In this randomized clinical trial, 64 patients who had mandibular first and second molars with irreversible pulpitis were randomly divided into two groups (n = 32) by stratified permuted block randomization. The experimental group used 60 mg KTP every 6 hours, and the control group received 400 mg ibuprofen tablets every 6 hours for 1 day. The severity of pain experienced by patients was quantified before and at 2, 4, 8, 12, 24, and 48 hours after endodontic treatment, using the numerical rating scale (NRS). Data were analyzed by using the t-test, Mann-Whitney test, and generalized estimating equation (GEE) (alpha = 0.05). ⋯ Both KTP and ibuprofen effectively decreased postendodontic pain. Considering the comparable pattern of pain reduction, KTP can be used as an alternative to ibuprofen tablets for effective pain control after endodontic treatment of mandibular first and second molars with irreversible pulpitis.
