Randomized Controlled Trial
High flow therapy versus hypertonic saline in bronchiolitis: randomised controlled trial.
To demonstrate that heated humidified high-flow nasal cannula (HHHFNC) is superior to inhaled hypertonic saline solution (HSS) in improving respiratory distress in moderate bronchiolitis. In addition, it could improve comfort and reduce length of hospital stay (LOS) and admission to Paediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU). ⋯ NCT01873144.

Efficacy of scorpion antivenom plus prazosin versus prazosin alone for Mesobuthus tamulus scorpion sting envenomation in children: a randomised controlled trial.
To assess the efficacy of combined use of scorpion antivenom (SAV) with prazosin, compared with prazosin alone in children with Mesobuthus tamulus scorpion envenomation. ⋯ Usage of SAV led to faster recovery and reduced the incidence of myocardial dysfunction. Combined therapy with SAV and prazosin is beneficial for children with M tamulus scorpion envenomation.

Sublingual ketorolac versus sublingual tramadol for moderate to severe post-traumatic bone pain in children: a double-blind, randomised, controlled trial.
To assess the effectiveness of sublingual ketorolac versus sublingual tramadol in reducing the pain associated with fracture or dislocation of extremities in children. ⋯ Both sublingual ketorolac and tramadol were equally effective for pain management in children with suspected fractures or dislocations.

Do chest compressions during simulated infant CPR comply with international recommendations?
Morbidity and mortality remain high following infant cardiac arrest. Optimal cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) is therefore imperative. ⋯ Compliance of APLS instructors with current international recommendations during simulated infant CPR is poor. The TT technique provided improved CD compliance, while the TF technique provided superior DC compliance. If this reflects current clinical practice, optimisation of performance to achieve international recommendations during infant CPR is called for.

Randomized Controlled Trial Comparative Study
A randomised controlled trial of Hartmann's solution versus half normal saline in postoperative paediatric spinal instrumentation and craniotomy patients.
To compare the difference in plasma sodium at 16-18 h following major surgery in children who were prescribed either Hartmann's and 5% dextrose or 0.45% saline and 5% dextrose. ⋯ The postoperative fall in plasma sodium was smaller in children who received Hartmann's and 5% dextrose compared to those who received 0.45% saline and 5% dextrose. It is suggested that Hartmann's and 5% dextrose should be administered at full maintenance rate postoperatively to children who have undergone major surgery in preference to hypotonic fluids.
