Meta Analysis Comparative StudySingle-incision versus conventional laparoscopic appendectomy: a meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials.
Single-incision laparoscopic appendectomy (SILA) has gained enormous popularity worldwide. We conducted a meta-analysis to assess feasibility, safety, and benefits of SILA as compared with conventional laparoscopic appendectomy (CLA). ⋯ SILA is feasible and safe with no obvious advantages over CLA. Therefore, it may be considered as an alternative to CLA.

Review Meta AnalysisThe volume effect in liver surgery--a systematic review and meta-analysis.
There is an inverse relationship between hospital and surgeon volume and mortality in many types of complex surgery. The aim of this paper is to investigate the volume effect on outcomes of liver surgery. ⋯ This study suggests a strong relationship between volume and perioperative mortality. No difference in morbidity, length of stay or survival was demonstrated.

Review Meta Analysis Comparative StudyLaparoscopic versus open appendectomy for complicated and uncomplicated appendicitis in children.
Appendectomy is one of the most common emergency operations performed in the pediatric population. The aim of this pooled analysis is to compare the outcome from complicated appendicitis (CA) and uncomplicated appendicitis (UA) following laparoscopic appendectomy (LA) and open appendectomy (OA) in children. ⋯ Pooled analysis demonstrates that, in children with uncomplicated acute appendicitis, LA is associated with a reduced hospital stay but broad equivalence in postoperative morbidity when compared with the conventional approach. Although overall morbidity is reduced when the laparoscopic approach is utilized, in cases of CA, the risk of intra-abdominal abscess is increased.

Review Meta AnalysisPancreatic lesions in von Hippel-Lindau disease? A systematic review and meta-synthesis of the literature.
von Hippel-Lindau (vHL) disease is a rare condition that leads to characteristic lesions within many different body systems. Pancreatic manifestations of vHL cover a wide spectrum of pathologies, and thus, accurate characterization and management is critical. ⋯ This review highlights the wide spectrum and high prevalence of pancreatic lesions in vHL. Simple cysts and SCAs are benign, but NETs require careful observation due to their malignant potential.

Meta Analysis Comparative StudyA meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials that compared laparoscopy-assisted and open distal gastrectomy for early gastric cancer.
We conducted a meta-analysis to evaluate and compare the advantages of laparoscopy-assisted distal gastrectomy (LADG) over open distal gastrectomy (ODG) for treating early gastric cancer (EGC). ⋯ LADG is advantageous over ODG because it results in lesser blood loss, is less painful, and is associated with a low risk of complications. Additional RCTs that compare LADG and ODG and investigate the long-term oncological outcomes of LADG are required to determine the advantages of LADG over ODG.
