Randomized Controlled Trial Multicenter Study Clinical TrialSilver-impregnated, antibiotic-impregnated or non-impregnated ventriculoperitoneal shunts to prevent shunt infection: the BASICS three-arm RCT.
Insertion of a ventriculoperitoneal shunt to treat hydrocephalus is one of the most common neurosurgical procedures worldwide. Shunt infection affects up to 15% of patients, resulting in long hospital stays, multiple surgeries and reduced cognition and quality of life. ⋯ A sample collection has been established that will enable the study of surrogate markers of ventriculoperitoneal shunt infection in cerebrospinal fluid or blood using molecular techniques. A post hoc analysis to study factors related to shunt failure will be performed as part of a future study. An impact analysis to assess change in practice is planned.

Randomized Controlled Trial Clinical Trial Pragmatic Clinical TrialDementia Care Mapping™ to reduce agitation in care home residents with dementia: the EPIC cluster RCT.
The quality of care for people with dementia in care homes is of concern. Interventions that can improve care outcomes are required. ⋯ Alternative models of DCM implementation should be considered that do not rely solely on leadership by care home staff.

Randomized Controlled Trial Multicenter StudyGroup cognitive rehabilitation to reduce the psychological impact of multiple sclerosis on quality of life: the CRAMMS RCT.
People with multiple sclerosis have problems with memory and attention. The effectiveness of cognitive rehabilitation has not been established. ⋯ Future research should evaluate the selection of those who may benefit from cognitive rehabilitation.

Randomized Controlled Trial Clinical TrialA group intervention to improve quality of life for people with advanced dementia living in care homes: the Namaste feasibility cluster RCT.
People with advanced dementia who live and die in nursing homes experience variable quality of life, care and dying. There is a need to identify appropriate, cost-effective interventions that facilitate high-quality end-of-life care provision. ⋯ In a full trial, consideration is needed of the appropriate outcome measure that is sensitive to different participant responses, and of clear implementation principles for this person-centred intervention in a nursing home context.

Randomized Controlled TrialGuided self-help for depression in autistic adults: the ADEPT feasibility RCT.
Co-occurring depression frequently occurs in autism. Evidence-based psychological interventions have been successfully adapted to treat co-occurring anxiety, but there is little evidence about the usefulness of adapted cognitive-behavioural therapy for depression. To the authors' knowledge, to date there have been no randomised trials investigating the usefulness of low-intensity cognitive-behavioural therapy for depression in autism. ⋯ Improvements to the intervention materials as a result of qualitative interviews. Stakeholder consultation to consider future trial design, consider strategies to improve retention in a treatment as usual arm and select a self-report measure of depression to serve as the primary outcome measure.
