Comparative StudyNew-onset pericardial effusion during transvenous lead extraction: incidence, causative mechanisms, and associated factors.
Pericardial effusion (PE) may occur during the lead extraction procedure (TLE). Little is known about the incidence, causes, and predictors of this complication. ⋯ New-onset PE is common during TLE and is associated with specific factors. PE severity and subsequent patient management depend on the site of injury.

U-shaped association between serum free triiodothyronine and recurrence of atrial fibrillation after catheter ablation.
Thyroid dysfunction affects the outcomes of atrial fibrillation (AF) catheter ablation. However, it remains unclear if the variations in thyroid function, especially in the triiodothyronine levels, are associated with AF recurrence in euthyroid subjects. This study investigated the associations of thyroid hormone levels with arrhythmia recurrence after AF catheter ablation in euthyroid patients. ⋯ Both high and low FT3 levels were associated with AF recurrence after catheter ablation. High-normal FT4 levels were also related to AF recurrence; however, no association was found between normal TSH levels and AF recurrence.

Review Meta AnalysisN-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids for prevention of postoperative atrial fibrillation: updated meta-analysis and systematic review.
N-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFA) have been postulated to have an anti-arrhythmic effect on postoperative atrial fibrillation (POAF), with conflicting results among studies. This study on pooled data evaluated the effect of PUFA on POAF among patients undergoing cardiac surgery. ⋯ PUFA appears to reduce the incidence of POAF. However, the said protective effect may be influenced by EPA/DHA ratio, with < 1 appearing preferable. PUFA efficacy on POAF prevention appeared insignificant when compared with non-fish oils and only apparent in the setting of CABG alone. Further studies are needed to confirm the effect of PUFA on POAF and to assess the proper use of PUFA against POAF.

Comparative StudyLong-term outcome of catheter ablation and other form of therapy for electrical storm in patients with implantable cardioverter-defibrillators.
Radiofrequency catheter ablation (RFCA) for electrical storm (ES) has become a widely used therapeutic method. Its effectiveness in comparison to other forms of ES treatment is however uncertain. ⋯ In patients treated with RFCA for ES, all-cause mortality was significantly lower compared to the group treated with other methods.

Health care utilization among adenosine-sensitive supraventricular tachycardia patients presenting to the emergency department.
Although adenosine-sensitive supraventricular tachycardia (SVT) is generally curable, it remains an important cause of healthcare utilization. We sought to determine predictors of health care utilization among SVT patients presenting to the emergency department (ED). ⋯ Readily modifiable clinical factors, including a previous visit to an electrophysiologist and treatment with catheter ablation, are associated with reduced health care utilization among patients presenting to the ED with SVT.
