Demonstration of Advanced Glycation End product (AGE) Expression in Bladder Cancer Tissue in Type 2 Diabetic and Non-diabetic Patients and the Relationship between AGE Accumulation and Endoplasmic Reticulum Stress (ERS) with Bladder Cancer.
This study aimed to investigate the relationship between advanced glycation end product (AGE) expression and accumulation in transurethral resection (TUR-B) material taken from type-2 diabetes mellitus (DM) and non-DM bladder cancer patients and endoplasmic reticulum stress (ERS) with bladder cancer. ⋯ Bladder cancer may develop as a result of accumulation of AGEs and ERS. Demonstration of the expression of proteins resulting from AGEs and ERS may be useful biomarkers for the diagnosis, prognosis, prevention and development of treatment alternatives for bladder cancer.

Spirometry reference equations for children from a Middle Eastern population.
Spirometry is a clinically useful test that can be used to assess lung function among children. Different equations had been formulated to determine the spirometric reference values depending on several individual characteristics. However, the widely used equations do not produce perfect suitability for Middle Eastern children. ⋯ This study formulated new spirometric reference equations for Middle Eastern children that can improve the diagnosis and management of different respiratory conditions.

Naringenin prevents pregnancy-induced hypertension via suppression of JAK/STAT3 signaling pathway in mice.
Pregnancy-induced hypertension (PIH) is characterized by high blood pressure during pregnancy, which causes perinatal and maternal mortality. Inflammation, oxidative stress and the JAK2/STAT3 signalling pathway have been reported to play critical roles in the pathogenies of PIH. Due to the safety and side effects of current treatments for PIH, searching for new therapeutic agents is urgently needed. Naringenin is a flavonoid with anti-inflammation and anti-oxidation activities. In the current study, the effects of naringenin on PIH were investigated. ⋯ Naringenin suppressed the activation of JAK2/STAT3 signalling pathway and promoted SHP-1 expression, leading to ameliorated hypertension in pregnancy.
