Observational StudyChronic Low Back Pain with and without Concomitant Osteoarthritis: A Retrospective, Longitudinal Cohort Study of Patients in England.
Despite the high prevalence of chronic low back pain (CLBP) and osteoarthritis (OA), few estimates of the economic cost of these conditions in England have been published. The aim of the present analysis was to characterise the economic burden of moderate-to-severe pain associated with CLBP + OA and CLBP alone compared with general population-matched controls without CLBP or OA. The primary objective was to describe the total healthcare resource use (HCRU) and direct healthcare costs associated with the target patient populations. Secondary objectives were to describe treatment patterns and surgical procedures. ⋯ Moderate-to-severe chronic pain associated with CLBP-with or without OA-has a substantial impact on patients and healthcare providers, leading to higher HCRU and costs versus controls among people with CLBP alone or together with OA.

Nigelladine A among Selected Compounds from Nigella sativa Exhibits Propitious Interaction with Omicron Variant of SARS-CoV-2: An In Silico Study.
COVID-19 has been a threat to the entire world for more than two years since its outbreak in December 2019 in Wuhan city of China. SARS-CoV-2, the causative agent, had been reported to mutate over time exposing new variants. To date, no impeccable cure for the disease has been unveiled. ⋯ From the findings, the present study suggests that Nigelladine A showed the most promising results among the selected molecules. This framework, however, interprets only a group of computational analyses on selected phytochemicals. Further investigations are required to validate the compound as a promising drug against the selected variant of SARS-CoV-2.

Observational StudyThe Associations of Platelet Activation and Coagulation Parameters with Obstructive Sleep Apnoea: A Large-Scale Observational Study.
Obstructive sleep apnoea (OSA) is associated with an increased risk of cardiovascular disease, with alterations in coagulability suspected as the mediating factor. This study explored blood coagulability and breathing-related parameters during sleep in patients with OSA. ⋯ Our study revealed nonlinear relationships between PDW and APTT, and AHI and ODI, in OSA, with AHI and ODI increasing the risk of an abnormal PDW and thus also the cardiovascular risk. The Risk Factors of Self-Management Behavior among Chinese Stroke Patients.
Stroke is associated with a high number of disability-adjusted life years globally, so long-term care is necessary and important for those survivors, so self-management is becoming a more significant concept in stroke rehabilitation. ⋯ The self-management behavior of Chinese stroke patients was at the middle level. Patients with medical insurance, high self-efficiency of management, and better limb function may have better self-management behavior. Besides, patients with a high educational level who accept health education before discharge may also have better self-management behavior. For patients, it is important to know this disease in the right way and set up the faith to take care of themselves independently gradually. For medical staff, it is necessary and important to give all patients health education about self-management before discharge. It is urgent to call for attention to this disease, and the government and all of society should give more support to stroke patients.

A Practical Model for Predicting Esophageal Variceal Rebleeding in Patients with Hepatitis B-Associated Cirrhosis.
Variceal rebleeding is a significant and potentially life-threatening complication of cirrhosis. Unfortunately, currently, there is no reliable method for stratifying high-risk patients. Liver stiffness measurements (LSM) have been shown to have a predictive value in identifying complications associated with portal hypertension, including first-time bleeding. However, there is a lack of evidence to confirm that LSM is reliable in predicting variceal rebleeding. The objective of our study was to evaluate the ability of generating a extreme gradient boosting (XGBoost) algorithm model to improve the prediction of variceal rebleeding. ⋯ The XGBoost algorithm model can achieve higher accuracy than the LR model in predicting rebleeding, making it a clinically beneficial tool. This implies that the XGBoost model is better suited for predicting the risk of esophageal variceal rebleeding in patients.
