Randomized Controlled Trial Multicenter StudyPatient assessment of a novel therapeutic approach for the treatment of severe, chronic pain.
Opioid-induced constipation can have a major negative impact on patients' quality of life. This randomised clinical trial evaluated patient assessment of the efficacy and tolerability of oral prolonged-release (PR) oxycodone when co-administered with oral naloxone PR. ⋯ The co-administration of oral naloxone PR with oxycodone PR improves patient assessment of analgesic opioid therapy for severe chronic pain, in terms of both efficacy and tolerability.

Multicenter Study Clinical TrialWhen glycaemic targets can no longer be achieved with basal insulin in type 2 diabetes, can simple intensification with a modern premixed insulin help? Results from a subanalysis of the PRESENT study.
The aim of this analysis was to assess the efficacy and safety of intensifying insulin therapy from a basal-only regimen to biphasic insulin aspart 30 (BIAsp 30) in patients with type 2 diabetes previously failing to reach glycaemic targets. ⋯ In routine clinical practice, patients with type 2 diabetes who are failing to reach glycaemic targets on basal insulin can achieve better glycaemic control without an increase in overall hypoglycaemia by intensifying with BIAsp 30.

Randomized Controlled Trial Multicenter Study Comparative StudyLipid-altering efficacy of ezetimibe/simvastatin 10/40 mg compared with doubling the statin dose in patients admitted to the hospital for a recent coronary event: the INFORCE study.
The aim of this study was to investigate the efficacy and safety profile of switching to ezetimibe/simvastatin (Eze/Simva) 10/40 mg compared with doubling the statin dose upon discharge in patients taking a statin and admitted to the hospital for the investigation of a coronary event. ⋯ In patients taking a statin and admitted to the hospital for investigation of a coronary event, treatment with Eze/Simva 10/40 mg for 12 weeks produced greater improvements in lipids with a similar safety profile compared with doubling of the statin dose.

Multicenter StudyFunctional gastrointestinal disorder is associated with increased non-gastrointestinal healthcare consumption in the general population.
Comparison of comorbidity and healthcare consumption in primary healthcare subjects with persistent functional gastrointestinal disorder (FGID) and a strictly gastrointestinal (GI) symptom-free group (SSF). ⋯ Functional gastrointestinal disorders are related to an increased demand on primary healthcare because of an increased overall comorbidity, which signifies a need for a holistic healthcare approach.

Randomized Controlled Trial Multicenter StudyEffects of oxybutynin transdermal system on health-related quality of life and safety in men with overactive bladder and prostate conditions.
Overactive bladder (OAB) is common in men and may exist concomitantly with benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) and obstruction. We present a subanalysis of results from men with OAB in a 6-month, open-label study of treatment with the oxybutynin transdermal system (OXY-TDS). Broad entry criteria were incorporated to yield a clinically representative population. ⋯ Oxybutynin transdermal system treatment of men with OAB was effective and well tolerated, regardless of history of prostate condition.
