Randomized Controlled TrialVibegron Improves Quality-of-Life Measures in Patients With Overactive Bladder: Patient-Reported Outcomes From the EMPOWUR Study.
Quality of life (QOL) can be significantly impacted by symptoms of overactive bladder (OAB). Vibegron is a highly selective β3 -adrenergic receptor agonist that showed efficacy in treatment of symptoms of OAB in the randomised, double-blind, placebo- and active-controlled phase 3 EMPOWUR trial. Here we report patient-reported QOL outcomes from the EMPOWUR trial. ⋯ ClinicalTrials.gov identifier number NCT03492281.

Randomized Controlled TrialThe antioxidant and anti-inflammatory effects of astaxanthin supplementation on the expression of miR-146a and miR-126 in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus: A randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled clinical trial.
The pathogenesis of type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) is associated with chronic oxidative stress and inflammation. It is well known that the expression of some miRNAs such as miRNA-146a is upregulated in diabetic and hyperglycaemic patients, whereas circulating miRNA-126 is reduced. Therefore, we aimed to determine the effects of astaxanthin (AST) supplementation on the circulating malondialdehyde (MDA) and interleukin 6 (IL-6) levels, and the expression of miR-146a and miR-126 in patients with T2DM. ⋯ AST supplementation might be beneficial for improving circulating MDA and IL-6 and the down-regulation of miR-146a. However, future investigations are suggested to confirm these results.

Randomized Controlled TrialAn effective treatment option for pain caused by urolithiasis: A randomized-controlled trial of local active warming with heat-patch.
There is growing interest in physical medicine treatment options for renal colic. In this study, we aimed to determine whether or not heat-patch treatment with no drug was effective in relieving renal colic. ⋯ As non-pharmaceutical treatment, the heat-patch has been shown to be a possible candidate for pain relief in patients with urolithiasis. Further research should concentrate on multicentre and large scale randomised studies.

Randomized Controlled TrialAdjunctive Dexmedetomidine Infusion in Open Living Donor Hepatectomy: A Way to Enhance Postoperative Analgesia and Recovery.
Open living donor hepatectomy (OLDH) is a highly painful procedure. Advanced strategies for enhancing perioperative analgesia and accelerating recovery are needed for patients undergoing OLDH. This study evaluated the effects of intravenous infusion of dexmedetomidine (DEX) during OLDH on postoperative analgesia and recovery. ⋯ The present study revealed that the addition of intravenous infusion of DEX during OLDH provided several benefits in relieving postoperative pain and promoting recovery. Therefore, we concluded that intraoperative DEX infusion may play an important role in enhancing the recovery of patients undergoing OLDH.

Randomized Controlled TrialEffects of Adjuvant Low-Dye Kinesio Taping, Adjuvant Sham Taping, or Extracorporeal Shockwave Therapy Alone in Plantar Fasciitis: A Randomized Double-Blind Controlled Trial.
Extracorporeal shockwave therapy (ESWT) is known as one of the most effective treatment methods in plantar fasciitis (PF). Low-dye taping, which is the most preferred method of banding treatments, provides an analgesic effect by correcting biomechanics. It was aimed to compare the efficacy of adjuvant low-dye kinesio-taping (KT), sham-taping, or ESWT alone in PF. ⋯ The study was registered at the U.S. National Institutes of Health (ClinicalTrials.gov) (NCT03904966).
