Health-related quality of life after laparoscopic and open surgery for rectal cancer in a randomized trial.
Previous studies comparing laparoscopic and open surgical techniques have reported improved health-related quality of life (HRQL). Postoperative adhesion formation is a common consequence of abdominal surgery, and constitutes a major source of morbidity and mortality. This study evaluated an ultrapure alginate-based antiadhesive barrier gel. ⋯ Ultrapure alginate gel decreased the incidence of postoperative adhesion formation in this rat model.
