Evolution and refinement of magnetically guided sentinel lymph node detection in breast cancer: meta-analysis.
Superparamagnetic iron oxide nanoparticles (SPIO) have been used as a tracer for sentinel lymph node (SLN) localization in breast cancer, demonstrating comparable performance to the combination of radioisotope (RI) and blue dye (BD). ⋯ The performance of SPIO is comparable to that of RI ± BD. Preoperative injection increases the detection rate and nodal yield, without affecting concordance. Whether skin staining and MRI artefacts are reduced by lower dose and peritumoral injection needs to be investigated.

The national response to COVID-19 has had a significant impact on cancer services. This study investigated the effect of national lockdown on diagnosis, management, and outcomes of patients with oesophagogastric cancers in Scotland. ⋯ This national study has highlighted the adverse impact of COVID-19 on oesophagogastric cancer outcomes in Scotland. Patients presented with more advanced disease and a shift towards treatment with non-curative intent was observed, with a subsequent negative impact on overall survival.

Faecal immunochemical test (FIT)-directed pathways based on a single test have been implemented for symptomatic patients. However, with a single test, the sensitivity is 87 per cent at 10 µg haemoglobin (Hb) per g faeces. This aims of this study were to define the diagnostic performance of a single FIT, compared with double FIT in symptomatic populations. ⋯ FIT in patients with high-risk symptoms twice in succession reduces missed significant colorectal pathology and has an acceptable workload impact.

The aim of this population-based cohort study was to assess the association between aortic morphological baseline factors in 65-year-old men with subaneurysmal aortic diameter (25-29 mm) and risk of later progression to abdominal aortic aneurysm (AAA) generally considered to be at a diameter for repair (at least 55 mm). ⋯ Baseline subaneurysmal aortic diameter, aortic size index, and aortic height index were all independently associated with progression to AAA at least 55 mm, with aortic size index as the strongest predictor, whereas relative aortic diameter was not. These morphological factors may be considered for stratification of follow-up at initial screening.
