Randomized Controlled Trial
Five-year follow-up of a randomized clinical trial comparing bursectomy and omentectomy alone for resectable gastric cancer (JCOG1001).
Bursectomy, the total resection of the bursa omentalis, is a standard procedure in gastrectomy for resectable gastric cancer. A phase III trial (JCOG1001) comparing bursectomy and omentectomy alone was terminated early at the interim analysis. The final results of the updated analysis after a minimum follow-up of 5 years are reported here. ⋯ In D2 gastrectomy, bursectomy is not recommended as a standard procedure for cT3-T4a gastric cancer. Ultrasound-assisted carbon nanoparticle suspension mapping versus dual tracer-guided sentinel lymph node biopsy in patients with early breast cancer (ultraCars): phase III randomized clinical trial.
Appropriate tracing methods for sentinel lymph node biopsy (SLNB) play a key role in accurate axillary staging. This prospective, non-inferiority, phase III RCT compared the feasibility and diagnostic performance of ultrasound-assisted carbon nanoparticle suspension (CNS) mapping with dual tracer-guided SLNB in patients with early breast cancer. ⋯ NCT04951245 (http://www.clinicaltrials.gov).

Caffeine for intestinal transit after laparoscopic colectomy: randomized clinical trial (CaCo trial).
Coffee has been suggested to help postoperative gastrointestinal motility but the mechanism is not known. This trial assessed whether caffeine shortened time to bowel activity after laparoscopic colectomy. ⋯ NCT02510911 (http://www.clinicaltrials.gov).

Randomized Controlled Trial Multicenter Study
Antibiotic prophylaxis in breast cancer surgery (PAUS trial): randomised clinical double-blind parallel-group multicentre superiority trial.
Participants were patients with invasive breast cancer undergoing primary surgery. The aim was to test whether a single dose of amoxicillin-clavulanic acid would reduce wound infection at 30 days postoperatively, and to identify risk factors for infection. ⋯ N0399145605 (National Research Register).
