Despite the gradual diffusion of laparoscopic liver resection, the feasibility and results of laparoscopic two-stage hepatectomy (TSH) for bilobar colorectal liver metastases (CRLM) have not been described frequently. This study aimed to evaluate the feasibility, safety and oncological outcomes of laparoscopic TSH for bilobar CRLM. ⋯ Laparoscopic TSH for bilobar CRLM is safe and does not jeopardize long-term outcomes in selected patients.

Impact of case-relevant and case-irrelevant communication within the surgical team on surgical-site infection.
Surgical-site infections (SSIs) are the most common complications after surgery. An influence from talking and distractions during surgery on patient outcomes has been suggested, but there is limited evidence. The aim of this prospective observational study was to assess the relationship between intraoperative communication within the surgical team and SSI, and between intraoperative distractions and SSI. ⋯ More case-relevant communication was associated with fewer organ/space SSIs, and more case-irrelevant communication during wound closure was associated with incisional SSI.

Outcomes in emergency general surgery following the introduction of a consultant-led unit.
Patients presenting with emergency surgical conditions place significant demands on healthcare services globally. The need to improve emergency surgical care has led to establishment of consultant-led emergency surgery units. The aim of this study was to determine the effect of a changed model of service on outcomes. ⋯ The establishment of a consultant-led emergency surgical service has been associated with improved provision of care, resulting in timely management and improved clinical outcomes.

The best approach for cholecystocholedocholithiasis remains a matter of debate. The aim of this study was to evaluate the technical aspects, learning curve and outcome of laparoscopic transcystic common bile duct exploration (LTCBDE). ⋯ LTCBDE with or without microincision and/or lithotripsy is a safe and effective approach.
