There is a lack of information about the organisation and management of clinical research personnel in Europe and of their professional activity in intensive care. We therefore conducted a cross-sectional survey among personnel currently working in a French intensive care research network that involves 41 centres nationwide. The aim of the survey was to describe the personnel's personal and institutional organisation and management, their job perception in terms of satisfaction and stress, and suggestions for improvement. ⋯ This nationwide survey provides a new insight into the activity of French clinical research personnel and points to ways to improve the quality and efficiency of this workforce.

Characteristics, predictors and outcomes of new-onset QT prolongation in sepsis: a multicenter retrospective study.
Sepsis-induced myocardial injury is a serious complication of sepsis. QT prolongation is a proarrhythmic state which reflects myocardial injury in a group of heterogeneous disorders. However, the study on the clinical value of QT prolongation in sepsis is limited. ⋯ New-onset QT prolongation in sepsis was associated with increased mortality as well as atrial and ventricular arrhythmias, which was predicted by disease severity and organ dysfunction.

Plasma glial fibrillary acidic protein and tau: predictors of neurological outcome after cardiac arrest.
The purpose was to evaluate glial fibrillary acidic protein (GFAP) and total-tau in plasma as predictors of poor neurological outcome after out-of-hospital (OHCA) and in-hospital cardiac arrest (IHCA), including comparisons with neurofilament light (NFL) and neuron-specific enolase (NSE). ⋯ GFAP and tau are promising biomarkers for neuroprognostication, with the highest predictive performance at 48 h after OHCA, but not superior to NFL. The predictive ability of GFAP may be sufficiently high for clinical use at 12 h after cardiac arrest.

This study aimed to develop an automated method to measure the gray-white matter ratio (GWR) from brain computed tomography (CT) scans of patients with out-of-hospital cardiac arrest (OHCA) and assess its significance in predicting early-stage neurological outcomes. ⋯ Automated measurement of the GWR from non-contrast brain CT images offers valuable insights for predicting neurological outcomes during the early post-cardiac arrest period.
