Significantly enhanced pregnancy rates per cycle through cryopreservation and thaw of pronuclear stage oocytes.
To examine the results of a 5-year trial using cryopreservation to limit multiple pregnancy and optimize overall pregnancy per cycle. ⋯ Cryopreserved pronucleate oocytes that survive freezing, thawing, and progress through syngamy demonstrate a similar potential for implantation and pregnancy when compared with fresh conceptuses, the cumulative effect of which is an enhanced total PR per cycle.

Comparative StudyTransvaginal versus laparoscopic gamete intrafallopian transfer: a case-controlled retrospective comparison.
To compare pregnancy rates (PRs) obtained by transvaginal ultrasound (US)-guided GIFT with PRs from conventional laparoscopy-based GIFT. ⋯ Transvaginal GIFT with present techniques seems to be less effective than laparoscopic GIFT, but it can be considered as a practical alternative to ovarian stimulation and intrauterine insemination and to peritoneal ovum-sperm transfer.

Effects of a 1-year treatment with a low-dose combined oral contraceptive containing ethinyl estradiol and cyproterone acetate on glucose and insulin metabolism.
To study the effects of the slightly estrogen-dominant monophasic low-dose oral contraceptive (OC) Diane-35 (Schering AG, Berlin, Germany) (35 micrograms ethinyl estradiol [EE2] + 2 mg cyproterone acetate, a 17 alpha-hydroxyprogesterone derivative [17-OHP]) on glucose and insulin metabolism. ⋯ These results suggest that a 1-year treatment with the OC Diane-35, which contains EE2 + a 17-OHP rather than a 19-nortestosterone derivative as the progestogen compound, does not significantly alter peripheral (presumably muscular) insulin sensitivity but slightly increases insulin (presumably hepatic) clearance.

Unilateral obstruction of the vas deferens caused by childhood inguinal herniorrhaphy in male infertility patients.
To study the incidence, diagnosis, and treatment of unilateral obstruction of the vas deferens caused by inguinal herniorrhaphy (IH) during childhood. ⋯ The incidence of vas deferens obstruction was unexpectedly high in subfertile patients with a history of IH during childhood. Careful palpation of the scrotal content was a useful and noninvasive method to diagnose unilateral vas deferens obstruction, and microsurgical vasovasostomy was treatment of choice.

Interruption of endometrial maturation without hormonal changes by an antiprogesterone during the first half of luteal phase of the menstrual cycle: a contraceptive potential.
To examine hormonal and endometrial responses to intermittent low-dose RU486 administration in the luteal phase of the menstrual cycle. ⋯ Two low doses of RU486 given 72 hours apart during the luteal phase of the cycle disrupted ongoing endometrial maturation without altering the hormonal and time course of the menstrual cycle. This study provides a basis for the development of a novel form of luteal contraception.
