[Impact of the COVID-19 lockdown on emergency medical service operations].
As a response to the severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) pandemic, extensive contact restrictions were imposed by law in Germany as in other European countries. The present study intends to clarify the effect of these restrictions on emergency medical service (EMS) operations. ⋯ EMS experienced a reduction of operations as a result of contact restrictions, although not as pronounced as was recently described for emergency rooms. This supports the hypothesis that the reduction is particularly evident in less severe cases and in younger patients. The reduction in pneumonia and COPD cases is striking. On the one hand, this could indicate that contact restrictions reduce the incidence of other respiratory infections and their impact on chronic respiratory disorders, but it could also mean that patients try to avoid hospital treatment.

[Implementation of a smartphone-based first-responder alerting system].
Shortening the resuscitation-free interval in cardiac arrest increases the survival rate. Smartphone-based systems can locate and alert nearby rescuers. ⋯ The resuscitation-free interval can be shortened by smartphone-based alerting systems. For successful operation, the total number of rescuers and the technical realization is crucial. Further studies are necessary to investigate whether the survival rate of out-of-hospital cardiac arrest can be increased. It appears extremely appropriate to adapt these systems to databases of quality management or research registers.

Subjective perceptions of workload and stress of emergency service personnel depending on work-related behavior and experience patterns.
Stressors due to the workload in the ambulance service are numerous and can be positively counteracted by work-related behaviors and experiences. We analyzed the subjective perceptions of workload and stress as a function of work-related behavior and experience patterns among emergency service personnel (EMP). ⋯ The online version of this article (10.1007/s10049-022-01076-y) contains further tables and figures. [Cardiopulmonary resuscitation of pregnant patients in the rescue service].
Cardiopulmonary resuscitation of a pregnant patient is a rarity in prehospital emergency medicine and an extraordinary challenge for the emergency team. Besides modifications to emergency medical procedures due to physiological changes during pregnancy, specific reversible causes must be considered and psychosocial difficulties must be managed. This article aims to present a standard operating procedure for this special situation. In these circumstances the basics of crew resource management (CRM) are of special interest for the emergency team and are therefore mentioned in this article.

Differences in training among prehospital emergency physicians in Germany.
Germany has an interdisciplinary physician-based emergency medical service. Differences in training likely lead to different levels of expertise. ⋯ The number of performed procedures markedly differed for some skills between different primary specialties. Recommendations regarding a procedural volume were not always met, suggesting missing expertise for some skills. A defined number of procedures should therefore be a formal requirement to be eligible for board certification in prehospital emergency medicine.
