Randomized Controlled Trial Multicenter StudyFrom tradition to innovation: a comparison of the traditional 4-step approach versus a blended learning modification for technical skills teaching.
This experimental study was performed to evaluate the role of blended learning for technical skill teaching on the European Trauma Course (ETC). While online modules are extensively used for theoretical teaching, their role in skills training remains less well explored. The ETC currently relies on the established 4-step technique for teaching technical skills. However, the required large cohort of skilled instructors and the time intensity prove increasingly challenging in a current climate of staff shortages and funding constraints. This study assesses if blended learning, combining pre-course online elements with face-to-face training matches the effectiveness of the traditional 4-step approach whilst being more time-efficient. ⋯ The integration of a blended approach with the 4-step technique for teaching pelvic binder application in the ETC streamlined teaching without compromising skill acquisition quality. This innovative approach addresses traditional limitations and shows promise in adapting medical education to modern learning and teaching demands. We suggest that blended learning could also be applied for other skills taught on life support courses.

Editorial Randomized Controlled TrialThe end of balloons? Our take on the UK-REBOA trial.
Resuscitative endovascular balloon occlusion of the aorta (REBOA) is increasingly used. The recently published UK-REBOA trial aimed to investigate patients suffering haemorrhagic shock and randomized to standard care alone or REBOA as adjunct to standard care and concludes that REBOA may increase the mortality. ⋯ The situation is complex, and the patients are in extremis. In summary, we do not think this is the end of balloons.

Randomized Controlled TrialImplementation of hyperspectral imaging in a trauma resuscitation room: a randomized controlled trial.
Hyperspectral imaging (HSI) is a novel imaging technology with the ability to assess microcirculatory impairment. We aimed to assess feasibility of performing HSI, a noninvasive, contactless method to assess microcirculatory alterations, during trauma resuscitation care. ⋯ HSI proved to be feasible during resuscitation room care and can provide valuable information on the microcirculatory state. Randomized Controlled TrialPhotography tele-transmission by regular ambulance staff for the management of mild traumatic injury: the NiCEPHORE randomised-controlled trial.
Handling emergency calls in French emergency medical call centres (EMCCs) can be challenging considering the frequent lack of relevant information. Tele-transmission device use in regular ambulances seems like a good solution to provide the EMCC physician with a more accurate assessment of the scene, particularly for mild traumatic injury (MTI). We measured the impact of ambulance staff tele-transmitted photography on prehospital dispatching optimisation for patients calling the EMCC with MTI. ⋯ Photography tele-transmission by regular ambulance staff could improve the dispatching of patients calling French EMCCs with MTI. Trial registration The study is registered with Clinicaltrials.gov (NCT04034797).

Randomized Controlled TrialEvaluation of abdominal compression-decompression combined with chest compression CPR performed by a new device: Is the prognosis improved after this combination CPR technique?
This study was designed to compare the outcomes of standard cardiopulmonary resuscitation (STD-CPR) and combined chest compression and abdominal compression-decompression cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CO-CPR) with a new device following out-of-hospital cardiac arrest (OHCA). Moreover, we investigated whether patient prognosis improved with this combination treatment. ⋯ CO-CPR was more beneficial than STD-CPR in terms of survival benefits in patients who have suffered out-of-hospital cardiac arrest.
