Review Case ReportsPrimary spinal intradural extraskeletal Ewing sarcoma mimicking a giant nerve sheath tumor: case report and review of the literature.
Primary intradural extraskeletal Ewing sarcoma is a very rare form of malignant neoplasm. Only few cases have been reported on the literature. ⋯ The patient initially seemed to have a giant nerve sheath tumor but was eventually diagnosed with intradural extraskeletal Ewing sarcoma arising from the nerve roots of the cauda equine. The literature with regard to primary spinal intradural extraskeletal Ewing sarcoma is reviewed.

ReviewPrimary atypical teratoid/rhabdoid tumor of central nervous system in children: a clinicopathological analysis and review of literature in China.
Atypical teratoid/rhabdoid tumor (AT/RT) is a very rare and highly malignant embryonal tumor in the central nervous system (CNS). Five patients (4 girls and 1 boy) with AT/RT were treated in our hospital. The clinical histories, symptoms, neuroimaging aspects, therapies, histological and immunohistochemical findings and follow-up information were reviewed. ⋯ One case with no recurrence after 24 months may have benefited from radical excision and postoperative radiotherapy. The other 4 patients died 8, 4, 1 and 1-month respectively after operation without radiotherapy. The diagnosis of AT/RT depends on full sampling, careful observation the morphological characteristics and INI1 examination, even when the tumor are presented in uncommon sites, such as the spinal cord and the pineal region.

Review Case ReportsConcomitant occurrence of IgG4-related pleuritis and periaortitis: a case report with review of the literature.
IgG4-related sclerosing disease is an established disease entity with characteristic clinicopathological features. Some recent reports have demonstrated that this disease can occur in the respiratory system including the pleura. Herein, we describe the first documented case of concomitant occurrence of IgG4-related pleuritis and periaortitis. ⋯ Recently, the spectrum of IgG4-related sclerosing disease has expanded, and this disease can occur in the pleura, pericardium, and periaortic tissue. Although histopathological analysis of the pericardium and periaortic tissue was not performed in the present case, it was suspected that thickening of the pericardium and periaortic tissue was clinically due to IgG4-related sclerosing disease. Our clinicopathological analyses of IgG4-related pleuritis and pericarditis reveal that this disease can present as dyspnea and pleural and pericardial effusion as seen in the present case, therefore, it is important to recognize that IgG4-related sclerosing disease can occur in these organs for accurate diagnosis and treatment.

Comparative StudySomatostatin receptor immunohistochemistry in neuroendocrine tumors: comparison between manual and automated evaluation.
Manual evaluation of somatostatin receptor (SSTR) immunohistochemistry (IHC) is a time-consuming and cost-intensive procedure. Aim of the study was to compare manual evaluation of SSTR subtype IHC to an automated software-based analysis, and to in-vivo imaging by SSTR-based PET/CT. ⋯ Our data demonstrate that the evaluation of the SSTR status by automated analysis (BB1 score), using digitized histopathology slides ("virtual microscopy"), corresponds well with the SSTR2A, 4 and 5 expression as determined by conventional manual histopathology. The BB1 score also exhibited a significant association to the SSTR-PET/CT data in accordance with the high affinity profile of the SSTR analogues used for imaging.

Unclassified renal cell carcinoma: a clinicopathological, comparative genomic hybridization, and whole-genome exon sequencing study.
Unclassified renal cell carcinoma (URCC) is a rare variant of RCC, accounting for only 3-5% of all cases. Studies on the molecular genetics of URCC are limited, and hence, we report on 2 cases of URCC analyzed using comparative genome hybridization (CGH) and the genome-wide human exon GeneChip technique to identify the genomic alterations of URCC. Both URCC patients (mean age, 72 years) presented at an advanced stage and died within 30 months post-surgery. ⋯ Compared with 18 normal renal tissues, 40 mutated genes were detected in the URCC tissues, including 32 missense and 8 silent mutations. Functional enrichment analysis revealed that the missense mutation genes were involved in 11 different biological processes and pathways, including cell cycle regulation, lipid localization and transport, neuropeptide signaling, organic ether metabolism, and ATP-binding cassette transporter signaling. Our findings indicate that URCC may be a highly aggressive cancer, and the genetic alterations identified herein may provide clues regarding the tumorigenesis of URCC and serve as a basis for the development of targeted therapies against URCC in the future.
