To determine the impact of the short science ethics courses on the knowledge of basic principles of responsible conduct of research (RCR), and on the attitude toward scientific fraud among young biomedical researchers. ⋯ Even a short course in science ethics had a great impact on the attendees, enlarging their knowledge of responsible conduct of research and changing their previous, somewhat opportunistic, behavior regarding the reluctance to react publicly and punish the wrongdoers.

Radiotherapy (RT) is increasingly used following mastectomy for breast cancer. While indications for post-mastectomy radiotherapy (PMRT) are clear in patient groups at high risk of local recurrence, guidelines are less clear in intermediate-risk patients and patients with ductal carcinoma in situ (DCIS). This study aimed to determine variations in the use of PMRT in the United Kingdom (UK). ⋯ There is significant variation in practice across the UK with regard to the use of PMRT in intermediate risk breast cancer and patients with DCIS. Further work is required to determine which patients in these groups are likely to benefit from the use of PMRT.

To identify the characteristics of admission of patients with cancer in the emergency department of a university hospital. ⋯ Cancer patients seeking nonscheduled medical care and admitting to emergency departments present many challenges to the emergency physician. Due to the associated high morbidity and mortality, initial evaluation of the patient in the emergency department and therapy have utmost importance in the outcome of the patient. Accurate diagnosis and appropriate treatment of cancer-related problems can improve the quality of life dramatically in patients with cancer.

To evaluate the toxicity and efficacy of oxaliplatin combined with the Nordic regimen of bolus 5-fluorouracil (5-FU) and leucovorin (LV) (Nordic-FLOX) as adjuvant treatment in stage III colon cancer patients. ⋯ Adjuvant treatment of stage III colon cancer with the Nordic-FLOX regimen can be an alternative regimen to infusional and other bolus regimens due to its easy administration, lower toxicity, and similar efficacy.
