Randomized Controlled Trial Comparative Study Clinical TrialEnd tidal carbon dioxide monitoring in spontaneously breathing, nonintubated patients. A clinical comparison between conventional sidestream and microstream capnometers.
To evaluate the end tidal carbon dioxide estimation in nonintubated, spontaneously breathing patients using either conventional sidestream or microstream capnometers. ⋯ The microstream capnometer provides a more accurate end tidal CO2 partial pressure measurement in nonintubated, spontaneously breathing patients than conventional sidestream capnometers, allowing for adequate monitoring of the respiratory function in nonintubated patients.

Randomized Controlled Trial Clinical TrialApplication of the self-inflating bulb to a hollow intubating introducer.
The aspiration test, performed by a self-inflating bulb (SIB), is a simple and reliable method to detect an accidental esophageal intubation. The aim of the study, in case of employment of a hollow intubating introducer (HII), was to verify the possibility to directly perform the test with the introducer and its efficacy in allowing the detection of its position. ⋯ The aspiration test with the SIB allows the proper detection of the introducer in esophagus. When used in combination with a HII, both time and local trauma associated with an erroneous, introducer-guided esophageal intubation in case of difficult laryngoscopy may be reduced.

Randomized Controlled Trial Clinical Trial[Adiuvants in the axillary brachial plexus blockade. Comparison between clonidine, sufentanil and tramadol].
Evaluated effects of tramadol used as adiuvant in brachial plexus block and compared with clonidine and sufentanil. ⋯ The use of tramadol as adiuvant provides a significative redution of onset time. Also provides a prolongation of anesthesia and analgesia with a quality of block similar that obtained with clonidine and sufentanil and a lower incidence of side effects of clonidine (sedation, bradycardia and hypotension) and sufentanil(itch and sedation). We conclude that tramadol may be a useful alternative, as adiuvant in periferic block, with same effects of other drugs commonly used and a lower incidence of side effects.

Randomized Controlled Trial Comparative Study Clinical Trial[The effects of remifentanil on hemodynamic response to intubation. A comparative study with fentanyl] .
The aim of this study was to evaluate the effects of remifentanil in comparison with those of fentanyl on the hemodynamic response to orotracheal intubation. ⋯ In conclusion remifentanil was found to properly control the hemodynamic response to intubation in comparison with fentanyl.

Randomized Controlled Trial Clinical TrialClinical comparison of either small doses of fentanyl or remifentanil for blunting cardiovascular changes induced by tracheal intubation.
To compare in a prospective, randomized study the effects on cardiovascular changes after tracheal intubation produced by small doses of either remifentanil or fentanyl. ⋯ We conclude that in healthy normotensive patients, the control of cardiovascular responses to tracheal intubation obtained with a 1 microgram.kg-1 loading dose of remifentanil is more effective than that provided by a 3 micrograms.kg-1 bolus of fentanyl, with the advantage of no risks for postoperative respiratory depression.
