Randomized Controlled TrialRescue analgesia with serratus anterior plane block improved pain relief after thoracic surgery.
Video-assisted thoracic surgery (VATS) is frequently associated with substantial postoperative pain, which may lead to hypopnea. Rescue analgesia using opioids has adverse effects. We aimed to evaluate the effects of rescue analgesia with serratus anterior plane block (SAPB) on moderate-to-severe pain and oxygenation in patients undergoing VATS. ⋯ Rescue analgesia with SAPB on the first postoperative day had a greater effect on pain relief and oxygenation after VATS. However, its long-term effect on chronic pain requires further research.

The postoperative analgesia of retrolaminar block in patients undergoing surgery with general anesthesia: a systematic review.
Postoperative pain has always been a difficult problem in anesthesia management. The neurological block technique has been used for postoperative analgesia management, but compared with the traditional block method, the effect of postoperative analgesia after layer block is still controversial, and a clear literature review is needed. This systematic review's goal was to investigate RLB's impact on postoperative analgesia. ⋯ Based on the results of this review, RLB can be applied to thoracic surgery, abdominal surgery and parotid surgery, but its analgesic effect is not significant enough, and further research is needed in the future to provide stronger evidence for postoperative analgesia in surgical patients.

Serum neurofilament light chain as an early diagnostic biomarker for critical illness polyneuropathy.
Critical illness polyneuropathy (CIP) commonly occurs in critical care unit (CCU) patients, but timely diagnosis can be challenging. Therefore, new biomarkers, such as serum neurofilament light chain (sNfL), could help to improve early identification of patients with this condition. ⋯ Levels of serum neurofilament light chain are higher in patients who develop CIP soon after CCU admission and might be helpful in identifying those individuals early.

Observational StudyAn observational study of gastric content in women scheduled for cesarean section or operative hysteroscopy.
The estimation of gastric content in third trimester pregnant women has already been studied, conclusions remain contradictory. The aim of this study was to compare gastric content in pregnant and non-pregnant women using gastric ultrasound. We performed an observational two-center study of women scheduled for a cesarean section (CS group) and of non-pregnant women scheduled for hysteroscopy (HS group). ⋯ Our study confirmed that antral CSA is increased among pregnant women and outlined that antral CSA should not be used alone in the decision-making process especially when the results of indicators (antral CSA, GFV, and Perlas Grading Score) are discordant.

COVID-19 and musculoskeletal pain: an overview of the current knowledge.
The Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) caused by severe acute respiratory syndrome Coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) has provoked billions of infections worldwide. Several meta-analyses have observed that up to 50% of individuals who had survived to a SARS-CoV-2 acute infection suffer from post-COVID symptoms lasting for weeks or months and up to one year after infection. The prevalence of post-COVID pain ranges between 10% to 20% when assessed with other overall post-COVID symptoms and can reach up to 50% to 60% when investigated specifically. ⋯ Studies have reported the complexity of post-COVID pain including immune, biological, and psychological factors, and more recently, they have suggested that genetic and epigenetic factors may also play a potential role, highlighting the need for further investigation into these mechanisms. Its management is still controversial, as no specific guideline for treating musculoskeletal post-COVID pain has been proposed with only general consideration about the relevance of multidisciplinary and multimodal treatment approaches. In this paper we will highlight the clinical features, the mechanism, and the management possibilities of musculoskeletal post-COVID pain.
