Meta AnalysisS100β as a potential biomarker of incident delirium: a systematic review and meta-analysis.
Delirium is an acute and fluctuating change in cognition, attention and consciousness, defined as an acute neuropsychiatric syndrome, but mechanism is extremely complex and still not well understood. Recently, the S100 calcium-binding protein B protein (S100β) has received attention in the biomarker research area of delirium. This meta-analysis was designed to investigate the relationship between S100β levels and delirium. ⋯ This meta-analysis provides evidence that serum S100β seems to be of limited value as a biomarker of delirium, but CSF S100β elevation may be more meaningful.

Review Meta AnalysisDrugs for anaesthesia and analgesia in the preterm infant.
There is largely an absence of validated evidence-based therapies in term- and preterm newborn infants, due to a lack of pharmacological clinical trials. As a consequence, the drugs and doses used in clinical practice are extrapolated from dose-ranging trials performed in older patients. Drugs administered to the preterm infant are invariably off-label. The aim of this current review is to identify commonly used anesthetic and analgesic agents in this patient population, assess the existing evidence base, in terms of safety, efficacy, pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics, current indications and doses. ⋯ Preterm infants are characterized by remarkable metabolic and developmental differences when compared with adults. It is not possible to derive guidelines or clinical recommendations based on the existing evidence.

Review Meta AnalysisValue of new ST-Segment / T-Wave changes for prediction of major adverse cardiac events after vascular surgery: a meta-analysis.
The aim of this review is to examine current evidence on value of new ST-segment or T-wave changes for prediction of major adverse cardiac events (MACE) after vascular surgery. ⋯ Current evidence suggests that in the setting of vascular surgery, new ST-segment/T-wave changes could serve as predictor of MACE with reasonable accuracy. Heterogeneity across studies, possibility of publication bias and paucity of eligible studies are potential limitations to these conclusions.

Meta AnalysisLidocaine for postoperative sore throat: a meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials.
Postoperative sore throat (POST) is a common complication after tracheal intubation. Various studies have examined the efficacy of interventions using lidocaine to prevent POST. Here, we present a meta-analysis assessing their efficacy. ⋯ This meta-analysis indicated that intracuff lidocaine and intravenous lidocaine are effective in preventing POST. In addition, intracuff lidocaine was associated with reducing the risk of both cough and hoarseness.

Meta AnalysisEffectiveness of quadratus lumborum block for postoperative pain: a systematic review and meta-analysis.
This study aimed to evaluate the effect of quadratus lumborum (QL) block on pain after surgeries under general or spinal anesthesia. ⋯ QL block may be a good multimodal analgesic approach for pain after abdominal surgeries.
