Tarsal tunnel syndrome (TTS) is defined as the entrapment of the posterior tibial nerve in the tarsal tunnel of the ankle. The etiologies of tarsal tunnel syndrome are mainly the presence of a ganglion, osseous prominence with tarsal bone coalition, trauma, varicose veins, neurinoma, hypertrophy of the flexor retinaculum, or systemic disease (rheumatoid arthritis, ankylosing spondylitis). However, no specific cause can be identified in some cases. ⋯ Diagnosis is made primarily by electroneuromyographic studies and physical examination. Surgery is the treatment of choice and the outcome is generally favourable. In this report, we present a patient with tarsal tunnel syndrome complicating peritoneal dialysis.

The aim of this clinical study was to evaluate the benefits of ultrasonographic imaging in the surgical treatment of upper extremity peripheral nerve lesions. ⋯ Preoperative and intraoperative ultrasonography for upper extremity peripheral nerve lesions may be used in the description of the degree of injury, determination of complete or incomplete nerve sectioning, the presence of hematoma and foreign body, the continuity of the nerve, determination of nerve stumps and perilesional scar tissue, and the presence of neuroma.

The goal of this clinical study was to evaluate the capability of intraoperative ultrasonographical examination to demonstrate the sectioning of the transverse carpal ligament during open surgical treatment of carpal tunnel syndrome with limited uni skin incision (mini skin incision technique). ⋯ We suggest the use of ultrasonography for intraoperative checking of the sectioning of the transverse carpal ligament during the surgical treatment of carpal tunnel syndrome with limited uni skin incision.

Rapid resolution of acute subdural hematoma and effects on the size of existent subdural hygroma: a case report.
The diagnosis and management of acute subdural hematoma is important in neurosurgery practice. Rapid spontaneous resolution of acute subdural hematoma within a few hours is seen rarely on the CT scan. ⋯ The resolution of acute subdural hematoma and effect of acute subdural hematoma on subdural hygroma must be considered during management. The relation of acute subdural hematoma and subdural hygroma is important for the resolution and management of acute subdural hematoma.

A retrospective study was conducted to assess the surgical outcomes of degenerative lumbar spinal stenosis. Thirty-four patients treated with decompressive surgery in Departments of III. Neurosurgery, Bakirkoy Hospital for Psychiatric and Neurological Diseases between 2000-2004 were reviewed. ⋯ Only one patient (%3) with two level laminectomy and 17 degrees postoperative sagittal rotation angle showed a significantly poorer clinical outcome and accepted instable. This study showed that, treatment of degenerative lumbar stenosis can be safely and effectively performed with standard laminectomy alone, resulting no significant sagittal plane instability. We concluded that single decompressive surgery offers satisfactory results in degenerative lumbar stenosis.
