Randomized Controlled TrialSharp compared with blunt fascial incision at cesarean delivery: a randomized controlled trial with each case as her own control.
To compare patient preference for either sharp incision with scissors or blunt manual cleavage of the fascia at cesarean delivery in a randomized controlled trial in which each woman was her own control. ⋯ ClinicalTrials.gov: www.clinicaltrials.org;NCT01297725.

Placental growth factor and soluble fms-like tyrosine kinase-1 are useful markers for the prediction of preeclampsia but not for small for gestational age neonates: a longitudinal study.
To determine maternal serum concentrations of placental growth factor (PlGF) and soluble fms-like tyrosine kinase-1 (sFlt-1) longitudinally in normal pregnancies, pregnancies that developed preeclampsia and pregnancies that deliver a small for gestational age (SGA) infant, in order to evaluate them as markers for the prediction of preeclampsia. ⋯ Our study confirms that maternal serum PlGF concentration is significantly lower, at least after 20th week, while sFlt-1 concentration is significantly higher in 3rd trimester, in pregnancies destined to develop preeclampsia. Pregnancies that gave birth to SGA infants do not have altered angiogenic factor concentrations throughout pregnancy. The relative difference of PlGF from the 1st to the 2nd trimester, uterine artery Doppler PI in the 2nd trimester and BMI are the most powerful markers for the prediction of preeclampsia.

Observational StudyComparison of serum anti-Mullerian hormone levels following hysterectomy and myomectomy for benign gynaecological conditions.
To compare serum anti-Mullerian hormone (AMH) levels following hysterectomy and myomectomy. ⋯ Serum AMH was significantly lower 2 days and 3 months following hysterectomy compared with the pre-operative level. Following myomectomy, serum AMH was significantly lower than the pre-operative level 2 days following the procedure, but was similar to the pre-operative level 3 months after surgery. Therefore, hysterectomy may have a more lasting adverse effect on ovarian reserve than myomectomy. A long-term study of AMH levels is needed.

A pilot study on the combined use of letrozole, mifepristone and misoprostol in termination of first trimester pregnancy up to 9 weeks' gestation.
To assess the feasibility of adding letrozole to the standard regimen of mifepristone and misoprostol for termination of pregnancy up to 63 days. ⋯ The results of this pilot study suggest that a regimen of mifepristone, letrozole and misoprostol is associated with a high complete abortion rate without major adverse events.

Randomized Controlled Trial Multicenter StudyInduction of labour or expectant monitoring in hypertensive pregnancy disorders at term: do women's postpartum cardiovascular risk factors differ between the two strategies?
Cardiovascular disease (CVD) is the leading cause of death in women in the western world. Several studies have described the association between hypertensive pregnancy disorders and CVD in later life. Our aim was to compare postpartum cardiovascular risk factors in women who had a shorter and women who had a longer exposure to endothelial activation during their term hypertensive pregnancy. ⋯ In women with hypertensive disorders in pregnancy at term, induction of labour does not affect the clinical and biochemical cardiovascular profile at 2.5 years postpartum.
