Evacuation of chronic and subacute subdural hematoma via transcranial neuroendoscopic approach.
To evaluate the effectiveness and safety of neuroendoscopic surgery for chronic or subacute subdural hematoma. ⋯ Neuroendoscopic surgery was a safe and effective approach for the treatment of chronic and subacute subdural hematoma. This approach has the advantages of decent visualization and minimal invasiveness and could reduce recurrence and the mortality rate.

The association of neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio and delayed cerebral ischemia in patients with aneurysmal subarachnoid hemorrhage: possible involvement of cerebral blood perfusion.
Background and purpose: Emerging evidence suggests that systemic inflammation is associated with the pathophysiological process of delayed cerebral ischemia (DCI) after aneurysmal subarachnoid hemorrhage (aSAH). This study aimed to investigate the association of white blood cell (WBC) count and neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio (NLR) with the occurrence of DCI in SAH patients. Methods: A total of 122 patients diagnosed with aSAH within 72 h of onset were retrospectively enrolled. ⋯ NC and NLR were independently associated with the occurrence of DCI, while NLR was the best predictive parameter according to the receiver operating characteristic curve. Moreover, there was a strong correlation between NLR and mean cerebral blood flow, mean transit time and mean time to peak. Conclusion: Leukocytosis is an early pathology of SAH, and NLR may be a practical predictor for the occurrence of DCI in SAH patients.

Public Awareness, Beliefs, And Attitudes Toward Bipolar Disorder In Saudi Arabia.
To examine public's knowledge, beliefs, and attitudes toward bipolar disorder (BP) in Saudi Arabia (SA). ⋯ This study revealed suboptimal public awareness towards BP in SA. It identified several misconceptions and negative attitudes toward patients with BP. Further studies are needed to investigate potential public interventions to improve literacy of BP.

Buprenorphine/samidorphan combination for the adjunctive treatment of major depressive disorder: results of a phase III clinical trial (FORWARD-3).
The endogenous opioid system is a fundamental regulator of mood in humans. Previously reported clinical trials have demonstrated the efficacy of the investigational agent buprenorphine/samidorphan (BUP/SAM) combination, an opioid-system modulator, for the adjunctive treatment of major depressive disorder. We present here a third phase III study of different design. ⋯ Efficacy results in FORWARD-3 measured by change in MADRS-10 score did not meet the primary end point, but postbaseline improvement in MADRS-10 in the BUP/SAM 2 mg/2 mg group was consistent with that seen in previously reported trials. BUP/SAM 2 mg/2 mg was well tolerated.

Meta-Analysis of Clipping versus Coiling for the Treatment of Unruptured Middle Cerebral Artery Aneurysms: Direct Comparison of Procedure-Related Complications.
Endovascular coiling and surgical clipping are routinely used to treat unruptured middle cerebral artery aneurysms (MCAAs). However, the optimal treatment for unruptured MCAAs is controversial. We aimed to systematically and comprehensively compare the clinical outcomes between endovascular coiling and surgical clipping for the treatment of MCAAs. ⋯ Although this study has inherent limitations, surgical clipping of unruptured MCAAs resulted in significantly higher complete aneurysm occlusion and GOS≥4 rates and was associated with a lower incidence of retreatment and complication, especially for postoperative thrombus without infarction. Therefore, the effect induced by surgical clipping of unruptured MCAAs remains superior to that induced by endovascular coiling; surgical clipping should be regarded as the first choice of treatment for unruptured MCAAs.
