Left upper pulmonary lobectomy or segmentectomy after coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG) risks injury to the grafts. We reviewed our experience. ⋯ Left upper lobectomy after CABG, in patients with previous CABG and LIMA grafting, is safe. Usually the entire lung can be safely mobilized off the bypass grafts; if needed, a small sliver of lung can be left on the grafts. A curative resection is possible with minimal perioperative cardiac morbidity, and excellent 30- and 90-day mortality.

Comparative StudyInfluence of aortitis on late outcomes after repair of ascending aortic aneurysms.
To determine outcomes of repair of ascending aortic aneurysms in patients with histopathologic diagnoses of aortitis. ⋯ Patients with repaired ascending aneurysms secondary to noninfectious aortitis have low early mortality, but late risks of death and aortic reoperation are increased, compared with these outcomes for patients with aneurysms that result from medial degeneration.

Influence of diabetes on survival in patients with cystic fibrosis before and after lung transplantation.
The influence of diabetes mellitus (DM) on survival in patients with cystic fibrosis (CF) before and after lung transplantation is not well studied. ⋯ The presence of DM is associated with significantly increased risk for death in patients with CF on the wait list before lung transplantation, but does not influence survival after transplantation.

Pure ground glass nodular adenocarcinomas: Are preoperative positron emission tomography/computed tomography and brain magnetic resonance imaging useful or necessary?
The utility of (18)F-Fluorodeoxyglucose positron emission tomography/computed tomography (FDG PET/CT) scanning and brain magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) as a staging workup for lung adenocarcinoma manifesting as pure ground glass opacity (GGO) is unknown. The purpose of this study was to determine the utility of these 2 tests for preoperative staging of pure GGO nodular lung adenocarcinoma. ⋯ PET/CT and brain MRI is not necessary in the staging of pure GGO nodular lung adenocarcinoma.

Observational StudyRight anterior minithoracotomy for aortic valve replacement: 10-year experience of a single center.
Minimally invasive aortic valve replacement (AVR) has been associated with several better outcomes over the standard full sternotomy approach. We revised our 10-year experience with right anterior minithoracotomy (RAMT) for AVR. ⋯ Minimally invasive AVR is a safe procedure, with low perioperative morbidity, and low rates of reoperation and death at late follow-up. Excellent outcomes can be achieved with minimally invasive AVR via right anterior minithoracotomy. Sutureless prostheses facilitate minimally invasive AVR and are associated with reduced operative times.
