Meta AnalysisSystematic review and meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials assessing safety and efficacy of posterior pericardial drainage in patients undergoing heart surgery.
To investigate the potential beneficial effects of posterior pericardial drainage in patients undergoing heart surgery. ⋯ Posterior pericardial drainage is safe and simple technique that significantly reduces not only the prevalence of early pericardial effusion and POAF but also late pericardial effusion and cardiac tamponade. These benefits, in turn, translate into improved survival after heart surgery.

Bridge to durable left ventricular assist device for refractory cardiogenic shock.
The role of short-term mechanical circulatory support has increased in patients with refractory cardiogenic shock. However, limited data exist on the outcomes of a bridge to a durable left ventricular assist device strategy using short-term mechanical circulatory support. ⋯ Short-term mechanical circulatory support can optimize patients in refractory cardiogenic shock and serve as a bridge to implantation of a durable left ventricular assist device. However, the early mortality rate after durable left ventricular assist device implantation is high because of unrecognized right ventricular failure.
