Comparative StudyOutcomes after lobar versus sublobar resection for clinical stage I non-small cell lung cancer in patients with interstitial lung disease.
Since the prognosis after standard lobectomy for non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) in patients with interstitial lung disease (ILD) is poor, we investigated the possibility of sublobar resection for the improvement of the surgical results in such patients. ⋯ Sublobar resection may be a potential alternative choice for clinical stage I NSCLC with ILD on HRCT.

Multicenter StudyCognitive outcomes and health-related quality of life in adults two decades after the arterial switch operation for transposition of the great arteries.
The study objective was to evaluate the cognitive and psychosocial outcomes of young adults who underwent an arterial switch operation for transposition of the great arteries. ⋯ Despite satisfactory outcomes in most adults with transposition of the great arteries, a substantial proportion has cognitive or psychologic difficulties that may reduce their academic success and quality of life. Further studies are needed to better understand the long-term outcome of this population to provide prevention, surveillance, and care strategies.

Indications for sublobar resection of clinical stage IA radiologic pure-solid lung adenocarcinoma.
The aim of this study was to identify clinical factors associated with lepidic growth in resected clinical stage IA radiologic pure-solid lung adenocarcinoma for identifying a possible sublobar resection candidate in the population. ⋯ Higher maximum standardized uptake value may be useful for identifying patients with clinical stage IA radiologic pure-solid lung adenocarcinoma in whom sublobar resection should not be considered, even if technically feasible.

Secondary sclerosing cholangitis in cardiac surgical patients: A complication with a dismal prognosis.
Secondary sclerosing cholangitis in critically ill patients is a rapidly progressing disease leading to biliary fibrosis and cirrhosis. We describe the course of sclerosing cholangitis in critically ill patients after cardiac surgery and compare this with matched patients. ⋯ Sclerosing cholangitis in critically ill patients is a fatal complication in patients undergoing cardiac surgery who have a complicated postoperative course with prolonged vasoconstrictor, inotropic, and respiratory therapy, or who require frequent surgical revisions. Liver transplantation remains the only curative option but is often precluded by the age and critical state of patients undergoing cardiac surgery.

Consensus statement on definitions and nomenclature for robotic thoracic surgery.
Robotic thoracic operations are increasing, and new robotic systems are imminent. A definition of what constitutes a robotic thoracic operation and a nomenclature to detail the technique used is needed to accurately compare outcomes. ⋯ The American Association of Thoracic Surgeons writing committee proposes a definition and nomenclature for robotic thoracic surgery. Definitions are needed to ensure that future studies accurately compare results and outcomes and nomenclatures allow surgeons and scientists from diverse countries and cultures to use the same language to allow accurate communication.
