Meta AnalysisShort-term effects of preoperative beta-blocker use for isolated coronary artery bypass grafting: A systematic review and meta-analysis.
The use of preoperative beta-blockers has been used as a quality standard for patients undergoing coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG). However, the benefits of beta-blockers use before CABG remain controversial. We performed a systematic review and meta-analysis to investigate the short-term effects of preoperative beta-blocker use for patients undergoing isolated CABG. ⋯ Our study suggests that the use of preoperative beta-blockers did not reduce either operative mortality or the incidence of postoperative complications in patients undergoing CABG.

Review Case ReportsLaparoscopic ligation of cisterna chyli for refractory chylothorax: A case series and review of the literature.
We describe an alternative surgical technique for the treatment of chylothorax in patients who have had failure of or are not candidates for transthoracic ligation or embolization by interventional radiology. ⋯ Laparoscopic ligation of cisterna chyli is an available therapeutic option for patients with chylothorax unresponsive to medical management, embolization, and transthoracic ligation of the thoracic duct. Our series is comparable with other reports of transabdominal approach to chylothorax.

Multicenter StudyThe long-term survival of robotic lobectomy for non-small cell lung cancer: A multi-institutional study.
Our objective is to report the world's largest series with the longest follow-up of robotic lobectomy for non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). ⋯ The oncologic results of robotic lobectomy for NSCLC are promising, especially for patients with pathologic N2 disease. However, further follow-up and studies are needed.

Observational StudyMidterm outcomes after postoperative delirium on cognition and mood in patients after cardiac surgery.
Delirium is a common neurologic complication after cardiac surgery. Our primary objective was to determine the impact of delirium on self-reported problems with midterm cognitive functioning and mood postcardiac surgery. ⋯ Postoperative delirium is associated with increased anxiety and depression at 6 to 9 months postcardiac surgery. Future investigation should seek to evaluate the utility of screening programs for affective disorders in those individuals who develop delirium in the postoperative period.

Multicenter StudyOne-year outcomes after rapid-deployment aortic valve replacement.
The goals of rapid-deployment aortic valve replacement include facilitation of minimally invasive surgery and reduced aortic crossclamp time. We report the short-term outcomes of a series of 493 patients undergoing rapid-deployment aortic valve replacement with the EDWARDS INTUITY valve system (Edwards Lifesciences, LLC, Irvine, Calif). ⋯ These results demonstrate commendable safety and performance of the test valve system over the short term in a broad European setting.
