Multicenter Study Clinical TrialSafety, efficacy, and hemodynamic performance of a stented bovine pericardial aortic valve bioprosthesis: Two-year analysis.
The study objectives were to evaluate the safety, efficacy, and hemodynamic performance of a novel stented bovine pericardial aortic valve bioprosthesis 2 years after implantation. ⋯ The Avalus (Medtronic, Minneapolis, Minn) bovine pericardial valve demonstrates good clinical and safety outcomes at 2 years. Hemodynamic performance shows mean gradients comparable to currently available bovine pericardial aortic valves. There was no clinical impact of moderate to severe mismatch at 2 years. Further follow-up is required to evaluate midterm to long-term clinical outcome.

Long-term outcomes of chordal replacement with expanded polytetrafluoroethylene sutures to repair mitral leaflet prolapse.
This study examines the durability of mitral valve (MV) repair for mitral regurgitation using chordal replacement with expanded polytetrafluoroethylene sutures to correct leaflet prolapse. ⋯ Chordal replacement with expanded polytetrafluoroethylene sutures provides stable MV function in most patients during the first 2 decades of follow-up.

Comparative StudyImpact of patient blood management guidelines on blood transfusions and patient outcomes during cardiac surgery.
In March 2012, Australia's National Blood Authority published national patient blood-management guidelines for perioperative care developed by a systematic review and clinical expert opinion. This study assesses how blood transfusions and patient outcomes in cardiac surgery changed after the guidelines were published. ⋯ Following the publication of the guidelines, there was a measurable reduction in perioperative blood transfusions in cardiac surgery with an associated reduction in hospital length of stay but no detectable differences in other patient outcomes.
