Cardiac valve operations after solid organ transplantation: A single-center experience.
Cardiac valve operations in patients who have undergone solid organ transplantation (ie, kidney, liver, pancreas, heart, and lung) pose unique challenges due to patient comorbidities and to the need for immunosuppressive therapy. The aim of this retrospective study was to present our experience with patients with solid-organ transplant who had cardiac valve operation at the time or after transplantation. ⋯ Although the high prevalence of postoperative complications, especially in patients with endocarditis or concomitant transplantation and valve surgery, survival conditioned to hospital discharge was satisfactory in patients undergoing valve surgery after solid organ transplantation.

Ketorolac use and anastomotic leak in patients with esophageal cancer.
Recent evidence has shown an association between postoperative ketorolac use and anastomotic leak in patients undergoing intestinal and colorectal operations, but this relationship has been minimally explored after esophagectomy. As the use of nonopioid pain control and enhanced recovery protocols is increasingly prioritized, determination of a possible correlation between perioperative ketorolac use and leak is essential. ⋯ Ketorolac in the postoperative period after esophagectomy has become an integral component of enhanced recovery pathways and does not appear to be associated with anastomotic leak.

The influence of tricuspid annuloplasty prostheses on ovine annular geometry and kinematics.
Surgical repair of functional tricuspid regurgitation is centered on annular reduction with artificial rings; however, the precise effect of prosthesis implantation on annular geometry, dynamics, and strain is unknown. ⋯ In healthy ovine hearts, flexible and hybrid rings better preserved annular dynamics and strain, whereas the rigid ring maintained 3-dimensional geometry. These data may aid the design of optimal tricuspid annular prostheses and improve durability of valve repair.
