Outcomes of Single versus Sequential Vein Grafts in Isolated Coronary Artery Bypass Surgery: Insights from a Large Tertiary Care Center.
Saphenous venous grafts remain the most widely used conduits in coronary artery bypass graft surgery (CABG). Data comparing outcomes of single saphenous venous grafting (SinCABG) versus sequential venous grafting (SeqCABG), however, are limited. ⋯ Short- and long-term mortality as well as early and late graft patency rates did not differ in patients undergoing SinCABG as compared with patients undergoing SeqCABG.

Direct Procurement with Machine Perfusion and Normothermic Regional Perfusion in Donation after Circulatory Death Heart Transplantation.
Donation after circulatory death (DCD) heart transplants have increased in the United States with direct procurement with machine perfusion (DPP) and thoracoabdominal normothermic regional perfusion (TA-NRP) techniques. There remains a paucity of data examining DPP and TA-NRP outcomes. The purpose of this study was to investigate the impact of the DCD technique on post-transplant outcomes compared to donation after brain death (DBD) donors. ⋯ In this matched cohort, DCD heart recipients experienced increased acute rejection, both treated and nontreated, compared to DBD heart recipients. Despite differences in the techniques and likely in fWIT, acute rejection, survival, and other secondary outcomes are similar with DPP and TA-NRP.

The Impact of Epiaortic Ultrasound utilization in patients undergoing Coronary Artery Bypass Grafting.
To assess whether the use of epiaortic ultrasound for assessment of aortic calcification impacts the rate of postoperative stroke following coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG). ⋯ Stroke rates after CABG were 0.8% with the use of epiaortic ultrasound and 1.4% without the use of epiaortic ultrasound. The current study did not find an independent association between epiaortic ultrasound use and postoperative stroke.
