Can We Safely Expand the DCD Donor Heart Pool by Extending the Donor Age Limit?
This study evaluates the impact of donor age on outcomes following donation after circulatory death heart transplantation. ⋯ The use of appropriately selected donation after circulatory donors aged 40 years or more has similar survival compared with that of younger donors. With careful candidate risk stratification and selection, consideration of using donation after circulatory donors aged more than 40 years may further ameliorate ongoing organ shortage with comparable early post-transplant outcomes.

Appropriate sizing of the frozen elephant trunk: How to predict proximal descending aortic diameter prior to dissection?
The predissection aortic diameter is the best reference for determining the size of the frozen elephant trunk in aortic dissection. We aimed to develop a new prediction method to estimate the predissection diameter of proximal descending aorta. Furthermore, we evaluated the accuracy of the estimated predissection proximal descending aortic diameters calculated using 3 prediction methods. ⋯ These results suggest that the new prediction method can be used as a simple and accurate estimation method for the predissection aortic diameter at the proximal descending aorta.

Late Recurrence of Completely Resected Stage I-IIIA Lung Adenocarcinoma.
Research into the risk factors associated with late recurrence (>2 years after surgery) of lung adenocarcinoma is limited. We investigated the incidence of and clinicopathologic and genomic features associated with late recurrence of resected stage I-IIIA lung adenocarcinoma. ⋯ Late recurrence of lung adenocarcinoma after resection is more common than previously reported. Patients without disease more than 2 years after surgery who had aggressive pathologic features at the time of resection have an elevated risk of recurrence and may benefit from more aggressive follow-up.

Outcomes of extracardiac Fontan operation: A single institution experience with 398 patients.
The study objective was to evaluate the outcomes of the extracardiac Fontan operation at a single institution. ⋯ Rates of failure of the Fontan circulation are low after the contemporary extracardiac Fontan operation. Risk factors for failure of the extracardiac Fontan circulation include right ventricular dominance, aortic atresia, and elevated pulmonary artery pressures.

Outcomes of Aortic Surgery in Patients with Takayasu Arteritis.
To investigate the presentation, aortic involvement, and surgical outcomes in patients with Takayasu arteritis undergoing aortic surgery. ⋯ Ascending aorta aneurysm and aortic valve regurgitation are the most frequent presentations in patients with Takayasu arteritis requiring aortic surgery. Surgery in these individuals is safe, with acceptable short- and long-term results.
