Intraoperative intercostal nerve cryoablation During the Nuss procedure reduces length of stay and opioid requirement: A randomized clinical trial.
Minimally-invasive repair of pectus excavatum by the Nuss procedure is associated with significant postoperative pain, prolonged hospital stay, and high opiate requirement. We hypothesized that intercostal nerve cryoablation during the Nuss procedure reduces hospital length of stay (LOS) compared to thoracic epidural analgesia. ⋯ Level I.

"Early on-ECMO" repair of CDH entails repair within 48-72 h of cannulation in an effort to optimize pulmonary physiology, shorten ECMO duration, and, ultimately, improve survival. This study evaluated the effect of early on-ECMO repair as compared to leaving patients unrepaired during ECMO. ⋯ Level III.

Although preoperative anemia has been suggested to predict postsurgical morbidity and mortality among infants <1 year of age, the data were drawn from heterogeneous patient cohorts including severely ill infants undergoing complex, high-risk procedures. We aimed to determine whether untreated preoperative anemia was associated with increased risk of postoperative complications in infants <1 year of age who underwent pyloromyotomy, a common and relatively simple surgery. ⋯ In relatively healthy infants undergoing pyloromyotomy, untreated preoperative anemia was not associated with postoperative compilations and should not be considered a significant risk factor. Level of evidence III.
