Randomized Controlled Trial Comparative Study
Breast milk and glucose for pain relief in preterm infants: a noninferiority randomized controlled trial.
The study goal was to compare the efficacy of expressed breast milk (EBM) versus 25% glucose on pain responses of late preterm infants during heel lancing. ⋯ Results based on PIPP scores and crying time indicate poorer effects of EBM compared with 25% glucose during heel lancing. Additional studies exploring the vol and administration of EBM and its combination with other strategies such as skin-to-skin contact and sucking are necessary.

Analgesic effect of breast milk versus sucrose for analgesia during heel lance in late preterm infants.
The purpose of this trial was to investigate whether breast milk (either breastfed or bottle-fed) has a better analgesic effect than sucrose in newborns born at a postmenstrual age between 32 and 37 weeks. ⋯ From this study, it cannot be concluded that breast milk has a better analgesic effect than sucrose in late preterm infants. From the results, it follows with 95% confidence that the analgesic effect of breast milk is not >1.6 points better and not > 2.8 points worse on the PIPP scale (SD 3.7) than the analgesic effect of sucrose in late preterm infants.

Hemodynamic effects of delayed cord clamping in premature infants.
Delayed cord clamping (DCC) has been advocated during preterm delivery to improve hemodynamic stability during the early neonatal period. The hemodynamic effects of DCC in premature infants after birth have not been previously examined. Our objective was to compare the hemodynamic differences between premature infants randomized to either DCC or immediate cord clamping (ICC). ⋯ DCC in premature infants is associated with potentially beneficial hemodynamic changes over the first days of life.

Effect of repeated dietary counseling on serum lipoproteins from infancy to adulthood.
As atherosclerosis is a lifelong process, prevention of exposure to its risk factors should start at an early age. Our aim was to study the influences of repeated low saturated fat dietary counseling on dietary intakes and lipoprotein measures from infancy to adulthood. ⋯ Repeated dietary counseling is effective in decreasing saturated fat intake and serum LDL-C values from infancy until 19 years of age in both genders. In boys, significant intervention effects are evident in various lipoprotein measures, indicating a more favorable lipid profile in the counseling group.

Nasal continuous positive airway pressure with heliox in preterm infants with respiratory distress syndrome.
To assess the therapeutic effects of breathing a low-density helium and oxygen mixture (heliox, 80% helium and 20% oxygen) in premature infants with respiratory distress syndrome (RDS) treated with nasal continuous positive airway pressure (NCPAP). ⋯ Heliox increases the effectiveness of NCPAP in the treatment of RDS in premature infants.
