Postdischarge Care of Pediatric Traumatic Brain Injury in Argentina: A Multicenter Randomized Controlled Trial.
To develop, in partnership with families of children with traumatic brain injury, a postdischarge intervention that is effective, simple, and sustainable. ⋯ Although no significant effect of the intervention was demonstrated, this study represents the first conducted in Latin America that documents the complete course of treatment for pediatric patients with traumatic brain injury spanning hospital transport through hospital care and into the postdischarge setting.

Hemodynamic Bedside Ultrasound Image Quality and Interpretation After Implementation of a Training Curriculum for Pediatric Critical Care Medicine Providers.
Bedside ultrasound for hemodynamic evaluation in critically ill children is increasingly recognized as an important skill for pediatric critical care medicine providers. Our institution implemented a training curriculum leading to institutional credentialing for pediatric critical care providers in nonprocedural bedside ultrasound core applications. We hypothesized that hemodynamic studies performed or supervised by credentialed providers (credentialed providers group) have better image quality and greater accuracy in interpretation than studies performed by non-credentialed providers without supervision (non-credentialed providers group). ⋯ Hemodynamic bedside ultrasound performed or supervised by credentialed pediatric critical care providers had more accurate interpretation than studies performed by unsupervised non-credentialed providers. A rigorous pediatric critical care medicine bedside ultrasound credentialing program can train intensivists to attain adequate images and interpret those images appropriately.

Early Electroencephalographic Findings Correlate With Neurologic Outcome in Children Following Cardiac Arrest.
To determine the clinical and electroencephalographic findings associated with prognosis in nonneonate children following cardiac arrest. ⋯ Following pediatric cardiac arrest, an initially normal electroencephalography or generalized slowing of the electroencephalographic background was associated with good neurologic outcome at hospital discharge.

Severe Acute Kidney Injury Following Stage 1 Norwood Palliation: Effect on Outcomes and Risk of Severe Acute Kidney Injury at Subsequent Surgical Stages.
To identify associations of severe acute kidney injury early after stage 1 (Norwood) operation with risk of severe acute kidney injury and comorbidities at subsequent palliative stages in patients with hypoplastic left heart syndrome and other single ventricle lesions with left-sided obstruction. ⋯ Severe acute kidney injury after stage 1 palliation was an independent risk factor for developing severe acute kidney injury at stage 2, and was associated with prolonged duration of mechanical ventilation following stage 3. Information on the incidence and associated risk factors for postoperative acute kidney injury in hypoplastic left heart syndrome patients from multiple congenital heart centers is a necessary next step to further understand the long-term burden of severe acute kidney injury after staged palliation.
