Endotracheal intubation using direct laryngoscopy continues to be the "gold standard" amongst all the techniques for isolating the airway. Generally this is a secure manoeuvre, but it might become a situation of extreme emergency when dealing with an unexpected difficult airway. ⋯ Its advantages over the Macintosh laryngoscope have been demonstrated in patients with an airway that it is difficult to manage and in adverse situations outside the surgical setting, when endotracheal intubation has been achieved in a simple way following unsuccessful attempts with conventional laryngoscopes. The greatest benefits in using the Airtraq laryngoscope have been shown in patients with a pronounced limitation of cervical mobility, and in those where the airway is distorted for anatomical reasons, such as pregnant women and obese patients.

Review Comparative Study[Influence of dietary intake on plasma biomarkers of oxidative stress in humans].
Oxidative stress is related to an imbalance between the production of reactive species and the antioxidant defenses. In essence, oxidative stress has been defined as a disturbance in the pro-oxidant/antioxidant balance, leading to potential damage. It has been suggested that oxidative stress is involved in the etiology of several chronic diseases including cardiovascular disease, diabetes, cancer and neurodegenerative processes. ⋯ Most of the studies that have examined the association between diet and oxidative stress consider the effects of antioxidant supplements (vitamins and minerals), drinks and foods with bioactive compounds or dietary patterns on oxidative stress biomarkers. Some of these studies have demonstrated beneficial results on oxidative stress markers. However, the role of diet on oxidative stress biomarkers remains unclear and represents a potentially fruitful area for further research in the health area.

Intracerebral haemorrhage (ICH) results from the spontaneous rupture of an intracranial vessel. It comprises about 15% of all cerebrovascular diseases, and carries the highest risk of mortality and morbidity. ⋯ Ultra-early haemostatic agents such as recombinant factor VII (rfVII) may have a role in ICH management; although further clinical trials are required for it to be used in routine management. This article reviews its pathophysiology and natural history, and the evidence supporting recent advances in medical and chirurgical management for spontaneous ICH.

The following article briefly sets out the possible new protocols that can be applied in biliary pathology, arising from the changes brought about by the appearance of new techniques of laparoscopic biliary surgery. It offers a synthesis of the latest and most novel articles on surgical technique and management in different biliary pathologies such as choledocholithiasis and cholecystitis. ⋯ The differences between endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography and intraoperative laparoscopic cholangiography have still to be demonstrated, it is not possible to make generalisations about whether one technique is more useful than the other. The same could be said about whether access to the main biliary path should be achieved through the cystic conduct or whether, on the contrary, a choledochotomy should be performed.
