Quantifying change in pulmonary function as a prognostic marker in systemic sclerosis-related interstitial lung disease.
Clinically meaningful change in systemic sclerosis (SSc) related interstitial lung (SSc-ILD) disease is unknown. The aim of this study was to quantify change in pulmonary function as a predictor of outcome in SSc-ILD. ⋯ The course that SSc-ILD takes is evident within the first 1-4 years of follow up. Patients who have no decline in PFTs over 4 years have better outcomes. A decline within one year in DLCO or KCO of 15% or more is a poor prognostic factor, and identifies patients who should be monitored more closely and considered for therapy.

Self-reported childhood maltreatment, lifelong traumatic events and mental disorders in fibromyalgia syndrome: a comparison of US and German outpatients.
The robustness of findings on retrospective self-reports of childhood maltreatment and lifetime traumatic experiences of adults with fibromyalgia syndrome (FMS) has not been demonstrated by transcultural studies. This is the first transcultural study to focus on the associations between FMS, childhood maltreatment, lifetime psychological traumas, and potential differences between countries adjusting for psychological distress. ⋯ The study demonstrated the transcultural robustness of findings on the association of adult FMS with self-reports of childhood maltreatment and lifelong traumatic experiences. These associations are mainly explained by current psychological distress.

Patient-related predictors of treatment satisfaction of patients with fibromyalgia syndrome: results of a cross-sectional survey.
This study aimed to determine patient-related predictors of treatment satisfaction in fibromyalgia syndrome (FMS)-patients. ⋯ The results of the study illustrate the influence of patient-related factors on treatment satisfaction. Treating comorbid depression and enabling patients to actively cope with the disease might prove successful in improving treatment satisfaction of FMS-patients.

The comparative responsiveness of the patient self-report questionnaires and composite disease indices for assessing rheumatoid arthritis activity in routine care.
This paper aims to evaluate the internal and external responsiveness of the patient self-report questionnaires, comparatively to the traditional composite indices to assess the activity of rheumatoid arthritis (RA) in everyday practice. ⋯ The self-report questionnaires showed comparable internal and external responsiveness to the composite activity scores and allow for the detection of rheumatoid disease activity. They appear suitable for clinical decision making, epidemiologic research and clinical trials. Further longitudinal studies are needed to validate these encouraging results.

Is the association of self-reported childhood maltreatments and adult fibromyalgia syndrome attributable to depression? A case control study.
Systematic reviews of case-control studies demonstrated an association between self-reported childhood sexual and physical abuse and fibromyalgia syndrome (FMS). We tested in a case-control study if the association of self-reported childhood maltreatments in childhood and in adult FMS-patients is attributable to depression. ⋯ Reports of FMS-patients some on childhood maltreatments were biased by depressed mood. However, the difference in self-reported childhood sexual abuse between adult FMS-patients and population controls was not attributable to depression.
