Text-message reminders to improve sunscreen use: a randomized, controlled trial using electronic monitoring.
To evaluate the effectiveness of cellular telephone text messaging as a reminder tool for improving adherence to sunscreen application. ⋯ Despite awareness of the benefits of sunscreen, adherence is low, even in this population, for whom adherence was knowingly monitored. Short-term data demonstrate that using existing cellular telephone text-message technology offers an innovative, low-cost, and effective method of improving adherence to sunscreen application. The use of ubiquitous communications technology, such as text messaging, may have implications for large-scale public health initiatives. Trial Registration clinicaltrials.gov Identifier: NCT00535769.

Crossover study of thalidomide vs placebo in severe recurrent aphthous stomatitis.
A multicentric crossover randomized trial of 100 mg of thalidomide vs placebo each for 2 months was conducted in patients with severe aphthous stomatitis of more than 6 months' duration. Seventy-three patients were included. Complete remission was obtained in 32 patients who received thalidomide and in 6 patients who received placebo. ⋯ Thirteen of 17 patients who had a complete remission while they were receiving thalidomide had a recurrence with placebo, 19 +/- 9 (mean +/- SD) days after stopping this drug. Side effects were significantly more frequent with thalidomide, especially drowsiness and constipation. We concluded that thalidomide in a dosage of 100 mg/d is an effective treatment of severe aphthous stomatitis but is not without some risk.

Botulinum toxin type a is a safe and effective treatment for axillary hyperhidrosis over 16 months: a prospective study.
To evaluate the safety and efficacy of botulinum toxin type A (BTX-A) (BOTOX) over 16 months in the treatment of bilateral primary axillary hyperhidrosis. ⋯ Repeated intradermal injections of BTX-A over 16 months for treatment of primary axillary hyperhidrosis is safe and efficacious.

Long-term safety and efficacy of 50 mg of etanercept twice weekly in patients with psoriasis.
To evaluate the safety and efficacy of long-term treatment of psoriasis with etanercept, 50 mg twice weekly. ⋯ Extended exposure to 50 mg of etanercept twice weekly resulted in exposure-adjusted rates of adverse events and infections similar to those in patients receiving placebo. Improvements in physician- and patient-reported measures of psoriasis severity were observed for up to 96 weeks of continuous etanercept therapy. Trial Registration clinicaltrials.gov Identifier NCT00111449.

A prospective comparison of octyl cyanoacrylate tissue adhesive (dermabond) and suture for the closure of excisional wounds in children and adolescents.
Recent studies suggest that the use of octyl cyanoacrylate tissue adhesive for closure of both traumatic lacerations and incisional surgical wounds results in a cosmetic outcome comparable to that achieved with conventional sutures. To date, no studies have looked at the use of tissue adhesive for higher-tension wounds, such as those created during cutaneous excisional procedures. ⋯ The cosmetic outcome of cutaneous excisional surgery wounds closed with standard suturing was found to be superior to that of wounds closed with octyl cyanoacrylate.
