Fenofibrate (FF) has been suggested as a second-line therapy for primary biliary cholangitis (PBC) with suboptimal response to ursodeoxycholic acid (UDCA). But its long-term effect is unclear. ⋯ Adding FF improves GLOBE and UK-PBC scores and is also associated with the improvements or stabilization of disease features, including fibrosis and ductular injury.

The association between Helicobacter pylori (Hp) infection and non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) is subject of a contentious debate. Data mainly stem from Asian cohorts whereas European data are scarce. We, therefore, investigated an Austrian colorectal cancer screening cohort for an association between Hp and NAFLD. ⋯ In this Central European cohort, Hp-positivity was not associated with the diagnosis of NAFLD. Although Hp positive patients seem to be more likely to have a concomitant NAFLD diagnosis, this association might rather relate to a cardiometabolic risk phenotype than causality.

We sought to systematically review the association between meal glycemic index or glycemic load and sleep indicators. ⋯ High glycemic index meals likely improve sleep onset latency in young males. For other indicators of sleep quality and other population groups, the results are equivocal. Most of the available studies were conducted in special population groups and were inadequately designed; whilst clinical trials were of short duration and small sample sizes. Therefore, further well-designed clinical trials are required before further definitive conclusions can be made.
