The aim of this study was to evaluate the impact of educational status (ES) on the clinical course of Asian patients with atrial fibrillation (AF). ⋯ In Asian AF patients, low ES is associated with high mortality. Efforts to improve education and include ES evaluation in the integrated care approach for AF are necessary to reduce the cardiovascular burden in these patients.

Melatonin, a hormone produced by the pineal gland, regulates the sleep-wake cycle and is effective in restoring biological rhythms. Prolonged-release melatonin (PRM) is designed to mimic the natural physiological pattern of melatonin release. In circadian medicine, PRM can be used to treat sleep and circadian rhythm disorders, as well as numerous organic diseases associated with sleep disorders. ⋯ Overall, PRM in circadian medicine is an effective chronopharmaceutical for restoring the sleep-wake rhythm in patients with insomnia disorder. This efficacy may also extend to sleep disorders associated with mood, neurodevelopmental and neurocognitive disorders, suggesting a further potential role in insomnia associated with various organic diseases.

This study aimed to detect expression level of microRNA-383-5p (miR-383-5p) in colorectal cancer (CRC) patients following chemotherapy and its potential influence on the prognosis in CRC. ⋯ MiR-383-5p is lowly expressed in serum of CRC patients. Upregulation of miR-383-5p is beneficial to the therapeutic efficacy of neoadjuvant chemotherapy and the prognosis in CRC.

Recent population-based studies have suggested a possible link between hepatitis B (HBV) infection and extra-hepatic malignancies. We aimed to evaluate the association between HBV and colorectal cancer (CRC) using a large, population-based cohort study utilizing data from a large health maintenance organization (HMO). ⋯ Our findings suggest that HBV infection is associated with an increased risk of HCC diagnosis but is not linked to an elevated risk of CRC. These findings may inform future clinical practice and research regarding the relationship between HBV and extrahepatic malignancies.
